Ok i have come here after trying multiple things to try and fix the rpm spikes. I'm running e85 on a turbo 420a, 8.8:1 comp, and cams. I'm running MS1 V3 MSn'S-E 029q code, and the cps signal is filtered through the vr circuit. I'm getting spikes at about 5500 rpm they are as bad as they were before i installed the caps but its just frustrating that i cant accelerate to the redline. The spikes only happen when i'm driving and not when i free rev it.

what i've tried:
-unplugging the alternator
-grounding MS to the block
-grounding MS to the neg terminal on the battery
-changing ignition tables
-changing spark dwell
-changing my cps filering with r52 and r56 pots
-installed 100nf caps on pins 1&2, 19&20, 31&32, and 6&ground
-making sure there isn't a ground loop through the MS case
-changed spark plug wires

Just curious is anyone running MSn'S-E successfully with the PWM flyback installed?

I just noticed I am getting some spikes at idle but thats it, I can rev it a bit and it quites for a while, I am going to clean up my grounds.

I had some RPM spikes when I installed spark and the EGT circuit. Adding two more grounds to the V3 board resolved the issue (MS is mounted to a plastic board).

I soldered two more grounds to the circuit board next to the db37 connector.

today i added more grounds and i also ran the pwm on its own 12v to make sure that it wasn't the cause of the rpm spikes. Still no go, it doesn't spike anymore but when accelerating it show a constant rpm on the laptop where it used to spike but its still trying to accelerate.

Do you have your factory noise filter (it's a bolted to the motor capacitor) still hooked to your +12v supply wire to your coil pack? This will reduce flyback into the MS. You running normal NGK plugs?

I COMPLETELY eliminated the factory ecu and 98% of the un needed wiring that MS could control or couldn't be used any more. I'm running my 12v for my coil off my MS asd relay. The plugs are still ngk's and when i got the car from baxsom it didn't have the little noise filter on the block, if that's the little round metal drum, I know my other 96' has one. How would i go about adding it?

Today I replaced the plugs with bkr7e's and ran all my MS grounds and sensor grounds on their own seperate ground block that grounds to the neg terminal on the battery and I think it is finally fixed! i took it for a quick spin down the road and no hiccup at all! I'll do some more driving tomorrow and find out for sure.

did some more driving and its alot better and i can take it all the way to the redline but it hiccups a couple times on the way to the redline. I played with the dwell settings some more and i did notice it helped. I also notice the hiccups get worse the longer i drive.

Yeah that little metal drum thing is what I'm talking about. My stock ECU is also 100% eliminated. You should add this capacitor (or a capacitor off a ford, which is bigger) back to the +12v feed to the coil pack. You just T into it, and it gets grounded when you bolt it to the head. If you go to a junkyard you can find one on like a Ford Taurus if you just follow the +12v (center wire) from the coil. Real easy to install.

What is the resistance of your spark plug wires? Have you tried using stock wires? ("Performance" wires have less resistance, which increases the magnetic field emitted from the wires).

What's your dwell at? Try something less aggressive, like 3.0ms, or even less.

Are you actually still getting spikes in your datalog now? It may be a tuning issue at this point. The spark plug insulators should be tan, not white (lean), if your unsure what side of the spectrum you're on with constant misfires.

i have it 100% working perfectly!!! My vb921 ignition coil that is soldered directly to the board had issues with pin 3 i just wired the vb921 directly with jumper wires. Pin1 to the top side of r26 through the 330ohm resistor, Pin2 to iac2b, pin3 to the ground on the db37 connector. There was a problem ground connection through the board for the vb921.

I am loving MS as full standalone running e85. I am finally getting a good tune going, and it pulls harder than ever! Yeah Mike you gotta make it up here one of these days, i dunno how many dsmers you have in hutch but thare quite a few here in alex.

Not a whole lot. Well, I take that back. A lot of people have non-turbo ones that go to like high school, but not a lot of people are into making them faster. It's basically me and my cousin and a couple of his friends that "run" this town (unfortunately haha).

One of these days I'll have to contact you about coming up there to hang out for a day or something.
