3123, MS1 and EGT logging, who's used it??? Posted by Slushbox, Apr-11-07 04:43 PM
I have my FI map pretty much completed (having the laptop take shotgun is addicting though, hehe), and now I'm ready for ignition, but I wanted to log some EGT's with the factory ECU before I switch over. I have the extra internal ignitor and the components for for the EGT logging circuit. The EGT sensor is from Exhaust Gas Technologies (Avenger Series) with a response time of ~.5 seconds. Has any one use the EGT circuit, and would an EGT probe with a response time faster than .5 seconds be over-kill.

Right now my EGT is only hooked to the Zeitronix ZT-2 controller. I'm about to run it into my MS1. I still gotta build my circuit though. Let me know how your's goes.

OK, it's running. During cruise on the highway, the EGT reads right about 1000 F. Third gear sprints read 1325 F at the top of the gear. I am getting some minor spikes (~15 F), but no real biggie. Are those temps in line with what everyone else is seeing? This is with the factory ECU taking care of the timing. The MS ignition is all wired up and ready for testing today, giggity-giggity!

Now the fun begins :9
As for EGT, I really want to get to my hook up. I think it's important as tuning information. I just haven't gotten to it yet :-(

Are those numbers you are getting through the Megasquirt circuit? They sound a tad low. Where did you place the EGT probe? By the looks of your sig you do not have a turbo, might explain why they are slightly low.
What does the probe say after you leave the car sitting overnight, after it has completely cooled off? It should read pretty darn close to ambient conditions.

The numbers seem a little low to me as well. The EGT temps read +2 F compared to my CTS and IAT sensors. There could be an issue with the accuracy of the readings as the temp increases; an EGT gauge will help when I get one :). I haven't detected any knock with my makeshift detector (mic mounted to the block connected to a 1/2 watt amplifier). If the temps are real, I guess I could handle leaning it out a little bit ~13.1 A/F at WOT with a max timing of 27 degress.

13.1? Yeah, plenty safe. To give you an idea, I'm in the 14's at WOT (dyno tune). As a matter of fact, I JUST ran her in the quarter at 16 to 1! She pissed me off (actually it looks like a bad injector) so I was going to show her. Ran a 14.0 with no discernable break up. Better than the 14.2's I was running for the day, LOL!

OK, I don't want to sound like a dumb azz, but on your n/a set-up, you're making max whp @ around 14:1 afr. I keep reading max power on a N/A is around 13.4:1 afr; thats where I'm at now. It'll help with my street tuning until I get to the dyno. I did notice that a drop of 1 degree of timing (from 28 to 27) @ wot makes the EGT's raise ~ 50 deg. F.
