Well, its official. I have moved to the dark side and am running a Mega-Squirt. I built a V3 board with a MSI chip set up to run ignition with internal VB921 modules. The ECU is mounted under a metal panel in the passenger's footwell (next to the ABS ECU).



Injectors are 780 cc/min peak & hold. I added bungs to the upper intake manifold and coolant neck to house standard GM IAT and CLT sensors. I am using an Innovate LC-1 wideband O2 sending the wideband signal to the MS and narrowband to the stock ECU. To my amazement, the engine fired up on the first try. Although he doesn't know it, ner947 is mostly responsible for that. I borrowed an MSQ file that he sent to Kirby. After a week of tuning, I have the car running rather well. Well, "I" is not the best word. The autotune feature used my wideband to redo the whole VE map. I was really just watching it work. The engine runs better than it ever has, although I still have some tweaks to make. Over the coming weeks, I will keep digging into it and eventually figure out what everything does.

Welcome to the darkside Corbin. :thumbsup You will love it. It was one of the best things I did to my car, it runs much better than it did with the SFMU.

I'm actually starting my MS-I v3 install tonight while my engine is out. I'm using a Zeitronix wb02 and setting it up just like you. Did you make the cover that covers your MS?

Edit: Is that your SRS computer in the pic with the MS? Mine is under the center console..

If you have ABS, you will have a control unit mounted under a metal panel in the passengers footwell. I just rotated the ABS ECU 180 degrees and that made just enough room to slide the MS ECU in below it. The metal panel is wide enough to protect the cables and wiring also. There is a stock wiring harness running through the firewall directly above this metal panel. I ran my harness right out there. It is a rather clean install if I do say so myself. I spent two nights ripping the interior apart to find a good place to put it.

Ahh sorry I read ABS as SRS. I mounted my MS underneith the passenger seat and am in the process of routing the wiring along the passenger door jam, I'm going to make a new hole in the firewall right next to the existing harness hole, probably using a hole saw.

good job man! You will love the MS..did you have any tach spike issues with the V.3 board? I know many were having that issue..I've got mine tuned in pretty good for 18 psi..run 100 octane unleaded with it..it's pulling great with the MS :)

Damn, I was gettin ready to do my install this weekend as well...too bad I just grenaded tranny number 2 in all of 200miles of driving :shrug

I haven't had any problems getting a good tach signal. My tach wire has a grounded metal jacket (harness from DIY Autotune). Maybe that helps. The car was running better than ever on Monday...right up until the LC-1 crapped out. My wideband output fell to a solid 0.025V. Evidently, I fried the D/A converter on that line. Innovate tells me that they have revised the LC-1 since I bought mine, to better protect the D/A converter. I am also supposed to add a 470 ohm resistor in the line to further protect it. They will replace the unit with the new model under warranty. If that solves it, I will still be very happy with the LC-1.

A few guys have damaged the LC-1's outputs. Selmerguy finally got the info a while back on the LC1 forum. Your lucky, i dont think they were willing to replace his.

All the V-3 boards i have built have been tested on my car and i have never gotten a tach spike. I have no shielding on my tach wire and the only odd thing i did was run the ground right to the battery grounding point on the frame. According to MS forums that will help eliminate noise.

Is your stock ECU still hooked up to the tach wire (CAS sensor)?

I'd really like to update that thing, it hasn't been updated since my car last ran in October of 05.

Stock ECU is still hooked to every sensor. I soldered the MS tach wire to the crank sensor wire at the stock ECU. I put Delphi weatherpack connectors in the wiring harnesses to allow me to swap fuel/spark control from MS to stock. I would still have to swap the injectors before emissions testing, but that is easy.

I appreciate the response, it looks like I'm going 100% standalone with the stock ECU out of the car (because it's broke, and I'd have to get a new one anyways).

I've looked a few different ways to do my idle. I'm in the process of making a completely new engine harness right now, while my motor is out.

I'm starting to get pretty excited! :)
