Not sure if this should go here, but I'd consider it an "Engine Controller".

This weekend, I'm thinking of installing my MSD DIS-2 and relocating my battery to the trunk to clean up some space and get ready for the 034 install next month. To those that have installed this, how long did it take and how hard is it to install? My main question is which wires on the coil are what. I see 3 wires going into the coil: which wire is the 12V +, which is Channel 1 and which is Channel 2? It looks to be a pretty straight forward installation. I think the hardest part is gonna be finding a place to mount this thing!

As you are looking at the connector, the middle pin is the +12v, the left pin is the left coil (cyl 2 & 3), and the right pin is for the right coil (cyl 1 & 4)

so is the left wire considered Channel 1 and the right wire considered Channel 2?

to be honest it doesnt matter
as long as the 12v is correct to the msd. it is the larger of the three wires as well as the middle one
and you have the same channel 1 going to the msd is the same as channel 1 coming out the car will run fine.
even if you get them mixed up and wire it backwards so to speak it will run. if it wont crank, then just switch the two outside wires around at the coil plug with no harm done.

as far as the where to mount it, you will read a lot where the msd has failed when mounted in the engine bay because of the heat so i mounted mine under the passengers seat and then ran the wiring under the carpet. i then mounted the stutter box switch inside the ash tray compartment

If you finagle it enough it will fit above the vent fan motor behind the glove box. That is where I have mine. Makes it really difficult to steal! My car has been broken into before with the MSD installed and the fucking losers never found it.

I'd kinda like to mount it under the hood so everything is right there. I HATE running wires through the firewall. :-(

Say goodbye to you expensive MSD box in a couple months then. heh. ETX, Madhatter210, Tim97RS, and many others have had their MSD box completely fail and become a paperweight. Some attribute this to mounting it in the heated engine compartment. One of the main reasons I bought a Crane Ignition unit. Lovin' it.

Really, that many people have had problems? I didn't realize it was THAT MUCH of an issue. Hmmm, maybe I'll just mount it on the passenger side of the center console, or on the floor board. Then again, I don't think it'll be TOO hard to run the wires through the firewall at that grommet. I have my wideband cable going through there. I just hope I have enough harness to get up to the coil without having to extend any of the wires.

I contacted MSD about the harness, but they still haven't called me back yet...guess I'll be splicing. :-(

Like I said mine is mounted under the HVAC where the TCU was, its perfect. The wires reach with about a foot of slack

Where did you run the wires through the firewall at? Did you use the OEM hole on the passenger side floor-board? Got any pics of how you ran the wires?

I ran the wires through the grommet on the passengers side then under the seat to the box

Hmmm, I have the brain for my Alpine CVA-1005 under the passenger seat. Maybe I'll just mount it to either the floorboard or to the passenger side of the center console.

You could also put it in the trunk, say on that bracing that goes behind the rear seat where I see a lot of nitrous bottles being mounted.

That would be a lot of wiring to mount that in the trunk. I'd love to install this unit this weekend, but MSD still hasn't gotten back to me with the wiring harness for my model year. :-( They only have a harness for the flat pin connector, where as I have the round pin connectors. I think I may just use male/female connectors and splice into the stock wiring. I need to get this thing installed before next weekend when Corbin comes down to help me install my 034 EIC/Portfueler setup.

He is looking for a place to install it besides under the seat, I am just throwing out suggestions.
