1955, Megasquirt Alternator/Speedo wiring Posted by RyMon, Apr-04-06 02:36 PM
Ok, so I just finished wiring in my megasquirt and such, and realized that my alternator is doing basically nothing. I had assumed that the stock ECU wasn't necessary for that; is there something I'm overlooking? The harness is plugged into the alternator, but the battery still dies after a short while running.
Secondly, I know the stock ECU controls the speedo, is there a way to duplicate this signal? Failing that, is there an aftermarket gauge wire/gear/sender that will hook up to the 5 speed tranny?
Thanks, Ryan

The 420A alternator is not internally regulated, so you'll need to use an external voltage regulator.
You can wire the speedo gear directly to the tach in the dash.
