1506, E-Manage and Secondary Injector idea
Posted by neovb, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I searched for a bit, but didnt really seem to find any relevant information. Im not sure if this belongs in the advanced discussion, and if it doesnt I apologize.

Anyways, right now Im basically running a stock motor with a custom turbo kit. I used the Hahn Super16G, and a Vortech FMU for raising fuel pressure during boost (stock injectors also). Right now its running at about 6-7psi, but I want to turn it up to 9psi. Im running the Greddy E-manage system, I have the advanced software, and both the injector and ignition harnesses. I also have a DIS-2 to control ignition (my goal soon is to try to incorporate the DIS-2 with the e-manage to provide full timing control). Ive been wanting to turn the boost up for a while, and really my only setback now is the lack of good fuel control. I have been looking into the 8-injector setup, but it seems a bit overkill for my application. Ive been thinking of a different setup.

I can easily set the FMU to a 1:1 rising rate. Im sure I can also use the E-manage to compensate for adding addition fuel during boost (using the E-manage boost sensor). This should take care of basic fueling during boost - but Im reluctant to run 9psi on stock injectors. The e-manage has the option to independently operate 2 additional injectors.... so, what if I plumbed two injectors into the intake piping (before the throttle body) and used the e-manage to control the two injectors to only turn on and provide fuel under boost? I can easily find two 235cc injectors, and the e-manage should be able to operate them.

I just want to know what you guys think about this. The only real problem I can forsee is possibly shooting fuel out of the BOV when it vents, but as I see it the e-manage should shut the injector off as soon as it sees vacuum. Idle and part throttle driving shouldnt be affected because the injectors would only be turned on during boost. Another question is the placement of the additional injectors - I would assume that placing them closest to the throttle body is probably the best idea, but I could be wrong.

To me this seems like a simple inexpensive method of providing additional fuel without having to replace all the injectors, or without resorting to the 8-injector setup (seeing as I already have all the necessary electronics). Any ideas, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope I didnt come of sounding like an idiot but its something Ive been wondering about for a while. Thanks for any help!

wait, what? are you talking about putting two additional injectors in the intake piping before the TB and spraying fuel in towards the TB and into the intake mani? i must be missing something. how is spraying fuel into the UPPER intake mani going to distribute enough fuel evenly through the 4 bottom intake runners and cylinders?

.. if i'm reading this right.. which it is late, so i don't know..

Are you running stock injectors right now? I would say sell the emanage, sell the Dis2, and buy a Megasquirt. If nothing else you could use it just for fuel now, and setup the ignition part later.

If you're on a stock engine, you could increase the boost to 9 psi with some slightly larger injectors, S-FMU, and decent fuel pump. The E-manage and ignition are not necessary. No reason to take the space shuttle to pick up groceries.

Yeah, but if ya can why not? ;) I totally agree with ya Corbin. With larger injectors no reason why ya couldn't, just keep it a tad rich. But next time you spend $200 on a piggyback keep the Megasquirt in mind, it's a really cool tool for the price.

Hmm, I guess I didnt think of the equal fuel per cylinder issue. I suppose I was wrong but I was thinking that the fuel would just mix with the charge air and get distributed the same amount per cylinder. I think Ive read a bunch of people doing it with other cars, so I was hoping it would work. I actually got it for a really good price, so it became substantially cheaper than getting any other management system. I guess I might as well as just shell out the cash and buy some larger injectors.

isnt what he is talking about kinda how a wet kit nitrous works

Yeah I've read a similar set up is Sport Compact Car. It was a Lexus sc something (the covertible hard top one) and it had a supercharger, stock injectors, and another extra inject mounted after the TB in the intake manifold. The extra injector had another piggyback controlling it. Interesting set up...

Thats exactly the setup I was thinking about. But I just gave in and bought 440s, and the E-Manage works fine with them :)

can the emanage that he is talking about control the injectors directly like in a Megasquirt setup?

No, i've talked with GReddy directly. The EManage requires a pulse. It takes the stock ECU pulse and modifies it. The MS does not require an initial pulse.

Are you still using the Vortech FMU and just put a 1:1 disc in it? Are you still running the stock FPR as well?

Emanage is very easy and pretty cool to use. You have complete control of everything with the injectors, ignition, etc. I can't compare it to anything, because I've only used SAFC-II and Emanage. Emanage is 20 times better than SAFC. Only drawback is you're limited to 440 injectors. I'll be selling both of those units as soon as I get my paypal for DSMLink. GSX is just sitting there mocking me.
