That's happened to me twice over the past year, both times were my fault, once for setting the wrong cranking pulse for 160 degree startup, and once was for leaving too much flux around a close connection. Both times I was able to fix the problem without a laptop. The cranking pulse one was a bit of a riddle that took me about 10 minutes to figure out that I wasn't getting enough fuel, so I had to do a keydance and start off of the fuel from the priming pulse. When the flux was causing a low resistance connection I picked it off with a knife and it was fine. The stability of the system is ultimately up to the end user.
