Does anyone know where I can get a 160 degree thermostat besides Howell. Howell wants $16.95 for the thermostat and $15.99 for shipping. I really don't want to pay $33.00 for a thermostat if I don't have to.

I think they're the only ones that have it. For the record, i have one and it kicks ass.

if they combine shipping just find a couple other guys that want one near you. I do think they are the only ones that have it though :(

Does anyone know what they carry at Autozone, Napa, or Lee auto? I mean shouldn't those parts stores carry a wide selection? - Maybe not, but reguardless does anyone know off the top of their heads what they offer for our 420a? Thanks.

Ive been comparing part numbers around... I think I might have found a compatible part number. The thing that most are forgetting is that this thermostat was not made for our cars, its for a different model. It just happens to fit.

Do you by chance know what model of car it is for? Perhaps I could just get a replacement from a local parts store, thanks for the help.

call me retarded..... the 160 thermo will help the engine run cooler correct? When it reaches this temp it allows more colant to flow.. is that right?

The stock one opens at 195. But when running a turbo with high boost, running a colder thermostat makes the engine less prone to detonation.

I ended up buying mine at the last place I thought would have it. A shitty run down building for an auto parts store, but this place has EVERYTHING and their prices are usually cheaper than Autozone/Pep Boys parts stores. If I asked them for a turbo kit, I'm sure they would get it. I dont remember how much I paid for it but I can find out if you still need one, Joe. I wanna say like $25 max.

I couldnt tell you how much it kicks ass since the sonofabitch still overheats despite all the upgrading and replacing of parts. I'm at my last straw with that cooling system. :bash

Yeah, If you don't mind. I was about tempted to just leave the 180 in for now, but if I could get one this week that would be great.

Michelle, you will need to put a better radiator like a fluidyne to keep your car cool. My car will try to over heat in this hot weather, the temperature will slowly rise especially with the A/C on. I wired the fans toughther and put them on a overide switch, so now I can run the fans continously if I am not on the highway. This helps keep the temps down quite a bit.

I think what is happening is that the radiators are getting older and are some what getting clogged up with corrosion and sludge. Also if you are running a turbo (especially if you have water cooled it like I have)and have a front mount IC. The radiator is not getting a lot of air flow because of the IC and the turbo is generating alot of heat under the hood that is soaking over to the cooling system. Also if the turbo is water cooled it is dumping extremly hot water back into the cooling system which is just to much for it to handle.

I am putting in a fluidyne this week which should fix the problem along with keeping the fans wired together.

That has yet to be figured out. The 160 degree is from some other make of car. If we could figure out which one it is we probably could get it at most autoparts stores.

well I think I figured it out, I asked for it at autozone and its special order so I cant just look at it and if I order it I cant return it. On the plus side, its 13 bucks.

That's not a bad deal at all, I'll have to look into that.

Hmm. I just went to my Autozone and they have nothing. I'd love to have a part number. Are you sure that they looked it up for a 420a and not a turbo? Let us know what you come up with.

From what I've been reading, putting the turbo inline on the water main does more to warm up the engine that it does to cool the turbo. In fact, Ford Motorsport specifically mentions not connecting the water lines to the turbos on their Group N WRC cars.
