99786, 98 GS 6G72 swap Posted by kurtc1984, Jul-14-06 06:59 AM
OK let me start with asking all of you who don't know about this swap except that you don't think it makes seance or should be done to go waste your time on some other nubs post... don't waste my time with having to see why you think I shouldn't do this. I don't care what you think and I do not want to read it. So ONLY post here If you have something use full or intelligent to say thank you. I have a 1998 eclipse gs. Iv done allot of researching as to what I can do with the car and what other cars have interchangeable parts. I have found that the avenger and sebrings from the dash forward are almost the same car. but they have a 2.5 6g73 V-6 that is almost worthless. But I also have read about people putting 3.0 6g72's in them. But I have never seen a manual v6 avenger or sebring. any way here's my Question. Is there a manual transmission that will go with the 6G72 and fit in my car? and dose any one have any good info or know where I can find some about putting a 6G72 in to my GS.

6g72, isnt that the 2000+ eclipse v6? ERT swaps those into v6 avengers all the time. As for a 5spd, when i worked there, they were working on a 5spd adaptor, i dont know if it ever got finished. www.exileracing.com

The avenger/sebring has 8" more engine bay front to rear. the Turbo eclispe tranny will fit to that motor. Its called a 3000gt and that trans is as problematic as can be. Plan on spending money on a TRE trans or Shep tranny if you attempt this.
Here is another tip. Loose the attitude or we will loose you!

I appreciate the input, no attitude intended, I just want to make it clear I don't care about and don't want to hear opinions, just facts. from the other 6g72 posts I saw on here there was more opinions than facts... its retarded and a waste of time going threw that junk trying to see if some one actually posted something worth reading.

Your new best friends should soon be; a sledge hammer a sawzall a MIG welder
If you don't have those yet, don't attempt this. You can make anything fit into a car. You could swap a chevy 350 into an Eclipse, but it might not be pretty, and it most likely won't be practical. Take your time and take lots of pics, if you do the V6 swap it'd be interesting to see.

Keep that up, and you get loaded in the ban cannon. You're a fucking nuub and as such, get told what we fucking tell you. You'll listen to it, or you'll fucking leave.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the thread on Tuners this week where someone was asking about doing this, they said it couldn't be done, and I got the thread reopened to share a bunch of information found using OUR search utility.
Repsect for searching. Attitude accounts for a lot. Catch more flies with honey than vinegar, son. :thumbsup

Yes it can be done, its not nearly as bad as everyone says. Because its not done here.. these guys immediately say no. but they are wrong... Its not for the average garage mechanic but it isnt too hard if you really want to do it... The avenger guys do it all the time, (theyve also done a few 4g63 (eclipse turbo engine) swaps and even the put in the AWD system with very little if any fabrication)..you can easily swap around the 420a, 6g72 2.5L, do the 3.0 swap and even a 3.5 from the montero. But so far there is no way to get the manual transmission to work yet (crank trigger signal problem, etc) If you want to be different do it... get a whole front clip from the avenger and go to town. Or just make these guys happy and get a hahn or star turbo kit and just slap that on the motor you have now and make more power than any of the 3.0..3.5 swaps (unless you turbo that too ..there are a couple with turbo'd 3.0L) I believe Robert from what was at one time ERT southwest did the 3.5 with nitrous and ran a 13.4 quarter..
Point is..can it be done...most def YES Does it take a decent mechanically inclined person..most def YES Are their better options...YES If you want more power I would just suggest going the turbo you stock/rebuilt motor route.. If you want to be different go 3.0 or even 3.5 swap but you'd better be ready for the work..
And yes with the eclipse shorter engine bay its gonna be super tight cramming the motor in there

I had that thread on Tuners unlocked just so I could post up that it has been done and that it's not as foolish as the 4G63 swap, just very technical. I pretty much shared all that I could find on how to do it over here.

How was it a waste of time? The answer is: Yes it is possible but many feel it doesnt justify the time or money spent to do it.
Asking the same thing over and over until you get the answer you want doesnt mean you've made any progress.

Im actually in the process of doing this swap. Just got my motor in yesterday, just waiting on the tranny :) . Yes it can be done, if you do enough research you'll find out how to do it, just depends on if you want FWD or AWD? PM me if you wanna know details about the swap.

Thank you mcgyvr for the support and info, I do appreciate some positive input, and thank you DR1665 for the link it looks to be full of good info. I've known the swap could be done, so I'm not asking if it can be done.. But I want to know If any one has any more knowledge or links on the subject (I knew there would be a bunch of negative posts and people telling me to just turbo it or it cant be done that's why i started it the way I did ( I was being honest). But I am sorry If I offended any one, That was not my intention. So I ask that those of you that were upset to accept my apology... and dark one... you just need Jesus.. I'll pray for you

Shoot Fire?lol..ok.. If you didn't like my originally post why did you reply to me? was it that upsetting for you to hear that I could careless about your opinion, that you would have to lash out at me here on line? did my statement of lack of interest in your personal opinions damage your ego? IF NOT WHY DID YOU REPLY THE WAY YOU DID? Please do explain!

Because he can actually shoot fire, refer to previous edited post. And why the anger, we've established that what you want to do is possible, in fact I was one of the first ones defending that, if we're going to continue down this track then I motion that we move this to the pit's. On second thought, I take that back. Just don't push religion, the only one that was any good at that was Bryndon, and even he knew when to bite his tongue, now let's all have a beer
:cheers

I Knew it could be done I was looking to see if any one could show me some more info on how. But people like the dark one get on my nervs with there opinions. So honistly I will pray for him, and I will pray for God to help me to be more tolorant with his type. He needs to realize not every one if any one cares if he has somthing negative to say

Bear in mind that you are still relatively new here. People don't know who you are aside from the comments you make in these public forums. If you present a hardline to our members, be prepared to receive responses in kind.
Oh yeah. I almost forgot. Since DarkOne has pretty much run these forums for the last four years or more, has more posts than any other member, and is far and away, the highest ranked member by his peers, it's a safe bet to say that more people care about his opinion than you think.
If you want to witness to others on this site, then do so by being a positive influence and not by telling them you will pray for them so they don't go to hell. This is not AWANA. This is 2GNT. If you are sharp, know your shit and think you can help us to raise the bar in our community in some way, then please stick around and lead by example. Turn the other cheek and press on.
Thank you.

I let myself get irritated by reading every other post about the 6g72 swap and then made my post with a little frustration in it. I will admit where I am wrong, and try this again with a little more humble and polite approach. I hope you all will give me another chance.
