Well i replaced the lifters today and still have a slight ticking in the head, it doesnt get any louder with higher rpms but does get faster. I got the mopar ones with a very large opening in the tops of them as my factory ones looked solid. Any chance that thats just a sound these are going to make or do i need to get it checked out? Kinda bugs me and i won't drive the car till I know something for sure.

LOL, you should here mine, its sounds like a damn diesel engine. Ive been running mine like that for the last 2 years. If its the same as mine, you'll be fine, it just gets really annoying.

I still dont know what it is, thats why Im replacing the whole head with upgraded internals, springs, retainers, valves, guides. This should make it to where if it still ticks, I know its not in the head or in mine, lol.

Your sure you dont have an exhaust leak?

Have you replaced your valves recently? I remember reading up on VFAQ back in the day that carbon deposits on your valves can make the same sound. A Seafoam treatment might just be what your car needs, man. I run the PTC lifters (they look like hollow point bullets or something) and I have no ticking whatsoever.

i'll have to try it, i know when i started it for the first time in like 8 months it poured some funky smellin smoke our for like 10 minutes, looked like a forest fire, turned it off, let it sit, and now no smoke at all.

Yeah I'd suspect carbon deposits first, in the shop when we get cars like that, after running a top engine cleaner through it (I.E. Seafoam sucked through a vacuum while the engine is running) it cleans it out and the tick goes away.

Seafoam is availible in a white and red can at most any auto parts store.

The way we run top end cleaner through at the shop is by unplugging the brake booster line at the brake booster, then hooking it up to a top end cleaner install tool (which kind of looks like an I.V.), which basically just controls the flow of the stuff.

You don't need the install tool though, you can just extend a vacuum line into the can and suck it in, just poke a hole your extension line, because you don't want to suck in so much that the engine starts to die.

A local service shop usually charges $65 for a fuel system cleaning, which includes the top end cleaner (Seafoam, etc..) run through with an installation tool, throttle body cleaning, and a fuel tank additive).
