I'm taking my block in to get machined at this high dollar race engine shop, so I wanted to leave as little work for the machinst as possible. Well I was trying to remove the dipstick tube by prying up on the little ridge that sits against the outside of the block, and the f'ker broke off on me leaving part of the dipstick tube in the block. I tried tapping it out from the inside by catching a flathead on the edge of the tube, but the screwdriver just slips, even when trying to put some heat on it from the outside.

Should I just have the machine shop bore the hole clean? Would I just be able to press the new dipstick tube in by hand and it seal?

Considering that's a slip fit install, I'd see about finding a drill bit that's slightly smaller than the diameter of the hole. Slowly run it through and see if it spins out. It's not in there very tight at all.

For future reference, you undo the bolt and twist it back and forth as you pull upwards on it. ;)

I had this exact problem...they sell extractor kits made specifically for this purpose. I used a 12" long 3/8" drill bit and this extractor set. It took a matter of minutes. I would see if your local Autozone or sumthin will let you borrow one.

Drill it IMO, the machine shop will charge you a stupid price (like $60) to pull that out, and spend about 10mins on it!

Haha, damn, I already dropped it off at the machine shop on my lunch break. I'm sure this thread will come in handy to someone else.
