97 GS, Man. trans, 173,000 miles.

So the problem child has a fun new behavior. Let me start from the top. She started stuttering one day on the way to work. The CEL light started blinking, major misfires ensued.

Replaced: plugs, wires, coil, fuel filter. No improvement. Replaced #1 injector - it was clogged. The fuel rail was lined with what looked like rust colored toothpaste. I cleaned as much as I could. The other injectors were dirty, but my wallet is only so deep.

The problem now: When I'm going around long right hand turns (like in long on-ramps or rotories (roundabouts, circles, or whathaveyou)I lose the throttle. Push it to the floor and nothing happens. As soon as I "level" out, it pops back again.

Now I know there's an oil issue with long right turns, but that wouldn't cause the car to completely stop responding. I think it's completely stalling, but I can't tell because I'm moving and as soon as I go straight, the engine pops back to life. What's the deal? Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Fill your gas tank :)

This happens when gas is sloshing to one side of the tank and the fuel filter pickup gets dry for a second. I will admit, it's never happened in my Eclipse, but it's happened in every other car I've owned :)


If the tank is full, something else is going on.

The fuel rail concerns me. Where is all that coming from, and why didn't the filter catch it? Did the car sit for a long time?

I'd pop out the fuel pump (under the rear seat) and have a look. Check the fuel pump sock for tears, and look at the gas tank to make sure there's not tons of junk in there.

I know how you feel. It happens in my cavy when I take a hard left. That's my low fuel "light". It has never happened in my eclipse though like ^^ said.

Pimp shit. :cheers But it really is a bitch to work on!!! The eclipse is so much easier. I had to take down my starter, my exhaust downpipe, my oil filter and relocation tube down just so I could get to my oil pan to change the gasket. And for the valve cover I had to take off my air claener (1st gen TBI setup with round air filter) and throttle cable bracket just so we could clear the rockers.

When I first got the cavy my gas level sending unit was going bad, whenever it would get to about a quarter of a tank, it would go around from E to F the opposite way it goes when you fill it and it would sit above F so I had no idea how much gas was actually left. Ran it out once like that, so I changed that and my fuel pump because I had to drop my tank, damn old cars.

Hey thanks everyone. Yeah the tank is full when I go around the corners. It just started after I did the repairs. The car has never sat. She's been a commuter since day 1. When I changed the fuel filter (which hadn't been changed in God only knows when), I let the gas leak into a clean white pan. The gasoline had amber colored globs at the bottom (looked like when you put water in oil). I'm not sure if that relates to this issue.

This car has more problems with fluids! Places where fluids should move are clogged. Places where fluids shouldnt move have holes. You'd think if the crap in my fuel is big enough to clog an injector, it'd be big enough to clog the leak in the EVAP system. Oh how I long for a Honda. Anyone wanna trade?? :-)

This is kind of a long shot but it could be sediment or something in the tank maybe.. If it sits along the side and gets sloshed around in corners it could get to the pump. Also, if you are talking about globs maybe the strainer for the pump is clogged and shitting gunk out of it. Maybe the strainer fell off completely and your pump is pumping unfiltered gas/sediment/sugar/whatever might be in there.

That or you could have a short in your wiring somewhere that when you turn shorts out the relay or pump.
