98832, Questions after hg. Posted by Slo2g, May-18-06 07:56 AM
Ok I recently replaced my head gasket with a mls and didn't put any kind of sealant on it. Now everything is put back together and my safc II's pressure is reading around 480 at idle. I also have a slow leak at the back left had side where the head meets the block(if your looking at the engine, not in the drivers seat.) What is the deal? Shouldn't the pressure be around 525?

Back left side leaking? Shave some threads off that bolt, and that should take care of it, no?

The new gasket is designed so you dont have to do that. That is why a TSB is issued with the new Headgasket.

I always use a light layer of Copper-Coat gasket spray on the HG's...I've never never had a problem, and that is with less than perfect gasket surface prep......(knock on wood)....

Actually the copper gasket spray is for hot spot protection on the gasket and surfaces. It will not enhance any sealing properties. Basically it makesheat transfer from cast iron to and through the gasket into aluminum much better. Hot spots cause warpage as you know.

Thanks for the insight Terry....I knew I used it for a reason, but just didn't know it was for that reason...Either way it works...LOL..

Update..I always buy the same durn can, but I use the general term "Copper Kote"...It is actually Permatex Copper Gasket Maker......
I have used this stuff on motocross engines, street bikes, go karts, cars, and everything else imaginable..I just got used to calling it copper kote...It is the same only with sealer.....
Either way, I just completed another leak free install with this stuff....It fills in those minor imperfections in gasket surfaces...
