98742, Check Engine Light
Posted by Dsm98Nt, May-15-06 07:33 AM
My CEL just randomly came on yesterday after driving home from work. So of course the first thing i did was check the fluids for the hell of it and sure enough the oil dipstick was dry. So i filled it up and the light is still on today. I have an exhaust leak out of the flex pipe.. could that have anything to do with it? Thats what i hate about the CEL it could be many different things LoL. Any help would be awesome.

You could at least do a key dance to see what the code is. There is no way we are just going to guess it. Either that or go to a parts store and see if they will scan it for you.

I think the dance is hit or miss on the 98-99 cars. Worth a shot, anyway. If not, take it to Autozone and have them scan it for free.

If you ran too low on oil, your oil light would have come on. Get under the car and make sure the oil pressure sending unit (OPSU - located in the picture below where all the stuff is bolted up, but does not look like the shit in the picture below) is connected.

Well just got back from autozone and it read the TPS sensor and the O2 sensor on the downpipe. and get this about 5 minutes into driving home from there the CEL fucking turns off lol. the guy said that the hole in the flex pipe could have something to do with the o2 sensor being bad. I was like whatever im getting a new exhaust system lol.

it doesn't explain why your dipstick was dry....if you plan on going turbo you'll have to check that as often as you can buddy....

A check engine light that randomly goes on and off at first sounds like a bad 02... Soon it will just stay on.

I second the O2 suggestion.

And I third it. The I's have it.

Get a new O2 sensor. With the the sketchy CEL and the price of gas, you have nothing to lose. :P
