Anyone have the autozone crankshafts? I tried to search and dint find much. I am getting a new crank, probably from autozone, since i messed my other one up. Also, i read about balancing the rotating assembly was good, will you be able to feel the difference between being balanced and unbalanced. I want to do everything right, i bought the block 2 years ago from Howell, so want to install a new crank myself and save some money. i want to hear from some people who has had a new crank installed, if some are still around. Thanks.

if your getting a crank and want to do it right, either get a EAGLE forged crank or if you cant spend that much dough, i dont know if you have a Federated Auto Parts in your state, but if you do, get one a crank from them, they are good quality cranks. DO NOT buy one from autozone!

if you dont have that store in your state, i could see abuot getting a price on one for you since i have tons of them here and i get a discount off parts from them since i work for GM.

Get the rotating assembly balanced. It cost me $125 from a local race shop here, they balanced the crank, pistons, rods, and flexplate. My stock crank was 20+ grams out of balance if that says anything.

I can tell you that with urethane filled motor mounts the motor is very smooth and very little vibration can be felt in the car (only slight at idle). I have heard of other people doing the urethane motor mount thing complain of the vibration, I have nothing to complain about with the balanced assembly.

The balancing should also help with motor life. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I dont have a federated auto parts here in Georgia where i live, so you can check a price for me if you dont mind, or else i will go dealer. I am gonna balance then, just to be safe and the one i had was balanced so mine as well do this one also.

What's wrong with your crank? Can you have it turned at a machine shop (rod or main journal damage)? If so, you could take your crank, rods, pistons, etc, to the machine shop, have them turn the crank & balance everything while you're at it.

I damaged the crank where the pulleys go on, being dumb and using a wrong tool i tried to pull off my afx udp and the extension got stuck in the crank. I tried to pull it out and it broke in the crank, i have very bad luck with my car.

A machine shop should be able to fix that, too. Should be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new crank, imo.

LOL, I wish i could get a pic for you. It is cut up, i just need a new one. I had to cut off the afx pulley and accidently grinded the crank where the pulley goes onto it.

Eclipse982nrRST-I know NAPA sells one also, would it be a bad idea to buy an autozone or napa crank and have it balanced and checked.

I'd look at who actually manufactured it. It may even be the same company. If you have it balanced, the only issues you'd have would be manufacturers defects.

I saw the napa one, i may just go autozone and have it checked and balanced. The dealer is $460 plus tax, so i am not paying that much even if i had the money. I just want to get the car running, it was supposed to be painted in june and now this. Also, i am getting the SC61 with the S cover (4 inch inlet). It would be running if it wasnt for my screw up.

I've got a spare crank. As far as I know, it's all good, but I haven't pulled it out yet. It sucked a valve and beat up the head & piston.
