98675, Engine Problems Posted by garciajose8, May-12-06 01:28 PM
Just about 10 min ago i went to the store and something happend. My "service engine soon" started flashing but would stop. Then i stoped in a stop light my car turned off. I got to my house fine, but now my engine shakes like hell. I went to AutoZone and rented a Scanner and im getting P0303, P0304, and P0300. Seems that the 3rd and 4th cylinder miss fire. I replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, sparkplug cables, and the ignition coil but keeps on doing the same thing.... can some one help me figure it out....
My car is a:
99 Eclipse GS 5-speed manual 96K miles on a 420a engine.

Was there a lot of oil on the white ceramic part of the spark plugs?
Definitely open your timing belt cover and check the belt for slack, there should be none. Crank it over with a 19mm wrench on the crank and inspect the belt every inch or so.

thanks, just checked the cylinders for compression and 1 2 and 4 had compression, 3 had none. so i checked the timing belt as recommended, and yes, one section of the timing belt was tight, the other very loose. my buddy called his mechanic and he said that the timing belt looked new and prob someone did not do the job right, and the timing might of skipped some teeth.
ill keep you posted onthe end result.....

It could be head related as well...bent valve(s) perhaps.
