98238, riddel me this riddel me that what the f@#k was that ? Posted by Dead Man, Apr-27-06 06:25 PM
Alright so yesterday is when it started . Off the line under hard acceleration, I get about a foot when the motor cuts out for a split second and then catches again its almost like a misfire but I get no new codes and that's strange because the CEL goes off and comes right back on. I checked when I got home and its still AIT and EVAP code (23,31) so if you can figure it out I will give you a cookie. I am also get a vary strange rattel at about 2500 to 4000 rpm coming from the valve train I am worried the the 4 deg advance on the intake is causing the valves to tap the pistons.

Sounds like the ECU is resetting. Check all your grounds.
4 degrees? you better retard that cam.

Can I ask why you have the intake cam advanced 4 degree's? I thought retarding the intake cam is better for top end performance and advancing is better for bottom end performance, unless your going for bottom end performance?

Well I have it at 4 because before I put my new cam gears on I did some searching for a good setting and the numbers I got were +4 on the intake and if you dont mind a rough idle 2 on the exh so I just went with +4 on the intake side but I am still new to cam tunning so I might have misunderstood but what ever is causing it its driving me mad.

Jon, I'd play it safe and pull some timing on that cam. Drop it back to zero and see if the noise doesn't go away. I hope you didn't fushik things. x(
As for the cut out, it does sound like a short somewhere. You got any problem spots with your harness? Got the ASD relay securely clipped in?

Check your ground mine was loose while driving, my car would shutter. My ecu was turning off, on, off, on. so I didnt get a code. Four turns with a wrench and 60 bucks to satan later fixed (Bastards)

I was thinking it might be something to do with an electrical disturbance because I just replaced my battery but my stereo dosent blank out or loose memory and its such a quick drop in power that comes right back but I am going to redo my ground wire kit and look for kinks in the harness as far as the noise its wierd because it sounds like its on the exhuast side and that scares me because when I put the exhaust cam back in the last time it didnt spin freely it was hanging up in spots so I scotch brited the towers a little and it helped but it still had a tight spot.

Ok so I redid me ground wire kit and stock ground and that seemed to get rid of the studder off the line and I retarded my timming and all that did was take some power away. I am still getting a rattel comming from the exhaust side of the head and from the passenger side of the motor. I do have the mechanicel tensioner conversion on this motor. Does anyone here run this and if so have you noticed that it makes a different sound. I am not loosing timming so I am pretty sure its not loose or has improper tension. Any help would be greatly appriciated because right now between this car and trying to buy a house Im about ready to postal lol.
