98078, High Flow Cat Question Posted by DanKid, Apr-21-06 08:52 AM
What's up guys. I picked up a high flow cat and header off of ebay for dirt cheap. I just wanted to know if it's true that a high flow cat will hurt you gas consumption really bad. With the high cost of gas prices i'm seriously thinking about holding off on the install if that's the case. An old school mechanic was the one who told me a few years ago that if you take our your stock cat, your car will consume a lot more gas. Do you guys know if theirs any truth to this?

Lol. Taking off smog related parts for the most part give better mpg. I installed 1 about a month and 1/2 ago, and have had no changes in gas consumption at all really. I guess you could say it might. More power means more fuel / air.

Yeah that's true. But I guess if you haven't noticed a dramatic drop in fuel consumption, i'll go ahead and install it.

Actually I Just filled up, and as a matter of fact when I got the car I paid 38$ every time I filled up, and I just payed 31$ ;)
And I always fill the car when it reach's 1/4 mark, so I know its the same amount as before, or atleast very close heh.

I am running a custom racing cat, headers and a cat back and my mpg didnt change at all on the interstate, I did see a small increase actuaklly of about 4-8mpg, but in the city it seems to have dropped my mpg, but the sound is amazing. I have turbo guys, and v-8 guys tell me that my car sounds amazing, not ricy at all very race car like, I'll try to get a sound clip for you
