97860, When will my clutch blow. Posted by selmerguy2003, Apr-16-06 04:17 PM
I posted this in dsmtuners a week ago and wanted to share it over here on the real site for 2gnts. When I rebuilt my motor I ran out of money and didnt buy a new clutch. That was a few years ago and I am still on that same clutch. I have been boosting 8-10 psi for the past year with no problem. I get on it hard and it dosent slip or anything. So now that I have my megasquirt running good I am turning up the boost. I did some 12 psi pulls and two 15 psi pulls and the clutch is still solid. I cant blow this thing up. I know for sure the clutch has at least 40,000 miles on it. I am going to start driving at 15 psi and see what happens. How far have you people pushed your clutch? When did it fail? I might set a record here.

my stock clutch with ~50,000 wouldn't hold even 8psi. :shrug

Mine went for about 5 months on 5 PSI before giving in. The actual clutch plate was good though, I believe. The TOB ate some teeth off of the pressure plate though.
Anyways, on 12-15 PSI..Depending on how hard and often your making those pulls, I wouldn't expect anything over a month left on it.
Best of luck though.

I got my car with 38000 on it i have 116000 now still going strong and im hard on my car but no boost yet. :( I do however have a centerforce stage 2 in the box waiting for my rebuild. Or first sign of slippage and the new one gets installed
side note
Would you just but a lighter flywheel or get a stock one lightend and resurfaced for about $110 or $300+ fidanza are they that great.
