9751, MSD Ignition worth the 150 or so bucks? Posted by nappyjim, Dec-08-01 08:01 AM
Is it worth the money to buy a msd ignition system if i really dont have engine mods or turbo? I mean, the only engine thing i have done is AEM CAI. But people say that the MSD works really well on 4 cy engne, helping them get more power at lower RPM's or something. ALso, i have auto trans, would that make it any less effective? Could someone please explain exactly what it does and would i need anything else before hooking it up? Thanks.

150 bucks is dang cheap fo rma msd dis-2. brand new they are about 310....and that is for the regular ones. honestly, I don't think you will gain any power from it unless you have major mods which could risk spark blow out.

I disagree allong with the added spark the MSD adds timing control which would be benificial. Should this be your next mod? Normally I would say no... but if you can get one for $150 I would go for it.

I think he is talking about the standard MSD 6 ignition which is for cars with distibutors. We can't use that one.

The only timing control the msd dis-2 adds is timing retard. why would you want to retard timing on a stock car?? that woudl cuse you to loose power.
