ok I drove 20 miles today, not 30 like I said earlier, I just went out and looked at my tripometer.. I put a brand new battery in today, cleaned all the connections, tested my voltage w/o starting and w/ starting, 12.5v and 14.3v respectively. So everything was perfect. I drove down to the store and back and everything was fine, I go outside to smoke and listen to my radio while I did so, b/c its cold as hell. I start it up and my check engine light and batt light are on. I turn it off, and back on, my check engine light went off, but my battery light is now back on. What the hell could be going on? The relay for my alt is still good, didnt blow. I'm confused and I need to be able to drive tomorrow to school, I have 2 tests and no ride. wouldnt it seem like my alt was charging my new battery when I got the 14.3v reading earlier today. I really doubt I could have driven 20 miles on just the battery. Please help

Ok I went out and tried it again this morning. it starts but my batt light is on. while running my battery is putting out 10.4v, with it off my batt is 12.4. I am getting current flowing through the positive cable running to the altenator, however if I take the plug off of the alt, and test the two wires going to it, I dont get any reading, nor do I if I unplug the small harness that goes to the alt, and check the plug that connects the two..... the only thing now I can think of is the two wires that arent connected anywhere... one is black/red and I believe is a sound resinator(sp?) and the other is a blue/yellow wire that goes to the power steering, the end broke off... could any of these two be causing the problem? Please help

ok the red/black wire that I dont have connected b/c it is broken off of its connector I believe, not 100% but pretty sure it is coming from the positive terminal of the coil pack. Now is that suppose to be mounted to the block by the noise resonator or what? However I doubt this has anything to do w/ my problem, but it needs to be fixed anyways. I drove my car down to this shop to talk the mechanic/owner about my problem, he says its probably a bad connection or wire on one of the two wires that plug into the back of the alt... he told me what to check, so I drive back to my house and just being down there and touching the wires, the fucker is charging and running fine. so I'm gonna be stuck all day tracing wires again.. fuck me. how can I test the two wires the plug into the back of the altenator w/ my multimeter? thanks

I told you before how to test the damn wiring and you keep asking the same question.

Disconnect the plug at the alternator, trace the wiring back to the ecu and disconnect it there. The ohm the two ends to see what kind or resistance you have. IF you wiggled the plug and it started charging then the plug is most likely the issue, they get oily and shitty go clean it and tighten the pins in it.

haha, you did tell me to check it but you never explained how. I traced it back to the ecu as far as i could, but I couldnt get it all the way b/c it appears that the 2 wires go under the ecu and then back up and I couldnt take the 8mm bolt out of the ecu, I kept turning it but it never would loosen. However, I traced it and cleaned everything again. Everything is working now, but I dont know if it will continue to or not. Is that bolt suppose to come out of the ecu so I can remove the 2 wires from it? hell I'll replace them just to play it safe. Thanks Terry, sorry for reposting haha. I was just confused :)
