Yep on buying a fuel pump. Oh well, I got a excellent price on it anyways. However, it didn't fix the problem.

My low fuel light keeps flashing on and off (even with plenty of gas in tank) and it also will accompany fuel cut or lack of horsepower. So I thought, well hell it must be the fuel pump. Why would the sender be directing the pump on how to act?? Well, I guess I was wrong. Maybe it does. So maybe I should replace the sender next. I also have maybe heard briefly about a fuel pressure regulator but don't really know much about it. I think I read it was on top of our fuel filters.

well I dont know about the 96, but I know on the 95's the Fuel Pressure Regulator is at the end of the fuel rail and I dont think it would have anything to do with the fuel light coming on.

Ya see the whole light thing has me baffled. And I can't find a part number or anything on an Eclipse fuel sending unit.

But thanks for the heads up on the right location for the fuel pressure regulator. I am sure it is the same as a 95.

Actually, I run a 96 and my FPR is under the car by the tank.

well I guess it was just 95's then or early 96's also, who knows (haha I'm sure someone here does, but not me) anyways, I isnt the sender part of the actual pump assembly? I know the fuel gauge unit is located on the middle of the tank on the same side as the pump. it actually sort of looks like the pump assembly. So I'd replace that, it makes sense. Hope this helps some. If you have a Chiltons or know someone who does, look at 5-18, it shows an exploded view.

Here is some good info about the sending units in the tank(s) and the thermistor used in the "Low Fuel" idiot light circuit.

The "Low Fuel" thermistor is separate from the sending unit for the actual fual gauge and fuel pump. I do not understand why your low fuel light would have any relationship to your fuel cut problems unless something is really screwy.

Ya I was thinking mine was in the rear. Is yours connected on top of your fuel filter or is it elsewhere in the rear?

Here's a totally wacky suggestion if other stuff doesn't pan out:

I'm sure that the fuel sender and pump are seperate peices, and that one doesn't effect the other.

So why would they "react" as though they are together?

Maybe they run off the same power source, (somebody will have to confirm or deny this), and maybe the power source is failing. So it gives a low voltage or no voltage to the pair, causing the pump to not pump well and the light to come on. As far as I know, the fuel pump relay controls the power to the pump, maybe it does to the sender as well??

Or, maybe there's a problem in the wiring to the fuel pump/sender.

Again, I'm just brainstorming here since your pump didn't solve your problem, and I don't know if what I said is factual but I figured I'd throw it out for consideration.

Nobody's asked when the last time you changed your fuel filter was?

Theyre supposed to be changed every 15-30k miles. A clogged one would cause poor performance.

very true, I thought he said he replaced it in his first post, but I just reread it and I am wrong. they are cheap like 14 bucks at autozone I think, that's the price it was when I last did mine.

Yep replaced the fuel filter too. Sorry, forgot to mention that.

However, Forcefed420a, I am really liking your theory. And funny you mentioned it today cause I was thinking about the fuel pump relay today.

Now if I can just find it. lol anybody want to point me in the right direction?

Fuel pump relay is on the drivers side of the firewall, to the right of the windshield washer reservoir.

Ok UPDATE


So I found the 2 relays (there are only 2 on my car) and replaced them both. Unfortunately, Autozone didn't have the exact OEM replacement part. So I got a generic that was the exact same thing. Or so it seemed. A 12 volt 30 amp relay. As soon as I replaced them both and started my car the check engine light came on. So I scanned this:

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the primary or secondary electrical circuits for ignition coil "b"


So...................whatever that means. This whole thing about has me pulling out my hair. So, I just put the stock relays back on for now. If I replace them again I will get them from the dealer. Or maybe they worked and allowed a CEL code to come through and I need to replace my ignition coil. Who knows?????

Okay, that's probabably because of the ASD relay that's throwing the code. I'd grab a FP relay from the Dodge dealership (apparently they're cheaper), and just replace that. Leave the ASD relay alone. I believe the FP relay is the one on the left as you're looking at the car, but don't quote me on that.

Don't worry man, we'll figure it out! I'm really hoping it's the relay. If it is, I'm gonna do a little dance! :afro hehehe.

Hey this is probably a very stupid question but I wanted to make sure. When I start my car I can hear a clicking under the dash. So I found it to be a relay that is located under the dash directly about the fuse box. It says power relay on it. It was kinda warm to the touch. Now I realize this is probably just a starter relay, but could it be running anything else?
