97084, Can bent valves crack forged pistons?
Posted by Hamgumball, Mar-15-06 11:11 AM
This is a topic i've been trying to answer ever since my timing belt snapped in october. It didnt back in october but I was wondering if it was possible for stainless steel valves to crack forged pistons. Has anybody done this or heard of anybody that has?

Oh jeez, Phil! Not again!

I imagine anything is possible, but maybe someone more fluent in this subject like Terry or Dino could offer some thoughts? :wary

Sure, they can crack, but not likely.

Mine didn't crack. They were slightly damaged, so I replaced them. However, they may have worked had I tried to use them again.

Well in my experience, my pistons won the battle when the valves tapped them.

I suppose anything is possible tho.

My pistons as well won the battle of piston vs. valve. My pistons also survived breaking an eagle h-beam...so I would say that its pretty damn tough to break forged piston.

arent our stock valves made pretty shitty? from all the searching that is what I've found, that's why everyone recommends upgrading them when you are rebuilding your head. so my guess is if the stock valve is shit material, it is possible but unlikely.. but????

thats true our stock valves arent the best, but my incident was with some good stainless valves and the piston still won.....its pretty much hit and miss really, you dont know until you look
