97044, 3" exhaust bullshit.. Someone help me out in the STL Posted by xlr82x, Mar-14-06 07:43 AM
Ok so I have called every company that I know of in the STL and more toward the Wentzville, Washington, and Warrenton area. They all are feeding me the same bullshit line. They are all saying that 3" exhaust piping is not fiesable with the 2g eclipse. I know many people upgraded their exhaust when they put on a turbo systems. So can someone tell me where they went so I can call them up and get this shit taken care of. I would order one of the GST exhaust systems but I am not sure where the down pipe will stop since I have not put it on yet. I am pretty sure that it will come down around the header area. Any help would be great.

The GST and RS/GS exhausts are completely identical and interchangable at the flanges from the cat-back. The GST cat is slightly different because the front flange, although identical is rotated about 45 degrees. The GST downpipe is completely different.
But ANY GST CATBACK will always directly bolt up.
3-inch is possible not only by going under the crossmember, but there's even some 3-inch setups that follow the factory routing over the crossmember.

I'm building a 3" exhaust right now on my free time, and there is plenty of room over the rear cross member. However, I would not have a shop build you an exhaust b/c most of them do not have a true mandrel bender. They have what is called a crush bender that winds up pinching the pipe around the die. Mandrel has a smooth radius. If I wasn't such a broke ass person, I'd just buy a nice 3" GST cat-back.

I have a 3" apexi n1 and its great. That company is a fool for saying that and obviously if they say shit like that their product is most likely shit because obviously they dont know much about the aftermarket capabilities of the cars they make products for. On another note if you are looking for a cheap 3" I hear the apexi dunk is actually pretty nice. It's a knock off but I hear its good quality, mendrel bends very good welds, its pretty solid

i have a 3" thermal research from hahn
the only thing with this one is that the flange for the cat is designed for an oem sized cat so hahn has to put a 3" cat flange on it if you have a 3"cat

Ok well thanks for the tips. I see that some of you are saying that i should get a GST exhaust. I don't know if that will work. I don't want to order anything that will not line up with my down pipe that I have already. So I guess I can't see a gst exhaust lining up on my rs.

well there's usually that little thing called a cat between the downpipe and catback. So, the gst catback will bolt up to your cat, giving you still have one or replaced it with another direct bolt on.

err well, so what if they dont think its feasable? thats THEIR opinion, but YOUR the customer. tell em to get over it and its what you want so either they order it for you or you take your business elsewhere. its not like your doing something illegal or unsafe, so they should have no reason to refuse, only disagree because of their stupidity.

Yea, its going to fit dude without a problem. My apexi n1 was listed for the Eclipse GST. The exhaust fit perfectly and bolted rite up. Trust us. More than plenty of people have put a 3" exhaust on there car that said it was for a GST. From the Cat back the piping is identical to how are exhaust is bent.

I had a custom 3" build for me from SS403, all tig welded...
it was a tight fit on the rear cross member, but it fit, just need some smart angles.
