Ok I think my alt is good, I have had this problem before. I start my car and then the batt light comes on. its a new battery and since I "believe" my alt is good, I'm thinkin it is the connections on the alt. I had this problem once before, I took all of them off and then cleaned them and it worked fine. My question is, is there anyways to test the connections? I'm talking the hot wire that bolts to the stud on the alt and the ecu plug? I will have the alt. bench tested tomorrow just to make sure, but I'm thinkin it is a connection somewhere. I'll check the relay also to see if it is good. thanks

ok I checked the alt relay fuse and it was blown.. so I put a new on in just to see if it will blow again.. so I hooked my battery back up and it sparked when I put the neg on (a bigger spark than suppose to) and a weird smell like sulfur was coming from I'm guessin my battery. And now I have no power from the battery and my battery is making a bubbling/hissing noise? WTF?

anyone have any ideas? thanks... also to add the positive cable was kinda warm, not extremely hot, but warm.. and the car hasnt been started since last night.. kinda weird.

You have a short. The bubbling/smelling of sulphur (it's the H2SO4 in your battery that's causing that) is not good.

Something is hooked up wrong. This just happened to my brother (battery light on, messed up battery), and he had grounded his starter wire unintentionally.

You have something similar.

Ok this is what I've figured out thus far. After hearing that a bad connection or ground was causing the noise of my battery and not getting any power this is what I did. I unhooked the wire that goes from the fuse box (120a fuse, alt choke) to the alt. and now my car starts. So here is what I'm thinking. I am going to take all the factory tape off of the wire and see if anything is touching and retape it all, then I will see if I can figure out where the opposite side of the fuse, where the other wire is (held on by an 8mm bolt). Now here is what I do know. My battery light was coming on at the inital start up, making me think something was wrong w/ my alt. So this is all making some sense. However my car started then, not until I was trying to change the 120a fuse did it quit starting w/ the wires hooked up. So anyone have any ideas why my car wouldnt start when the alt. choke fuse is hooked up? or how I can check it? thanks

ok. here is what is going on... I replaced the hot wire that runs from the fusebox to the altenator(that bolts to the stud on the alt). I actually upgraded it to a 4 gauge battery cable, it just seemed better to use rather than the 2 wires that were stock on there... Now here is the problem. If I keep the fuse connected and hook my battery up. I get a reading from that wire, so juice is running through it, However, if I connect that wire to the altenator, nothing gets power. So I am thinking something is bad which is grounding the altenator. But there arent any wires that ground the altenator. There is a blue and a red wire that goes to the sensor plug on the back of the alt, but I dont think they are grounds. What the hell do I do now? if I keep the hot wire on the alt w/ the fuse in, my car wont get power or start, if I take it off the alt and keep the fuse in, it does... wtf?

Check for continuity between the alternator post and a ground.

you were right, the internal ground was bad in the altenator.... luckily I carry a spare :) works fine now.. thanks

I'm sorry if my original post had you outside for hours. I simply meant that there is a problem with the connections somewhere in the charging system. (apparently it was something in the alternator) Fortunately Darkone was able to identify it even closer.

Sorry if it made you waste a ton of time! :(
