Anybody body ever use cam caps off another head? I know the general idea is that its a big no no. Just wondering if anybodies ever done it on these heads.

Don't want to jack your thread but where did you buy your headlights?

I've had personal experience with doing this, and the end result was very hard to turn cams(by hand of course). The cam bearing caps are bored from the factory to match that particular head that they are bolted to, which is why you cant use mis-matched cam caps. Now, you may be able to have a new set of cam caps line bored to the head, but i've never heard of anyone doing that on a 420A yet. I'm going to assume you would have to get brand new caps from the dealer, which come oversize, and then they would be line bored to the proper cam journal oil clearnce size. Others may have used other cam caps with "no problems",but they are not going to be perfect for that head, and the end result would be severly scored bearing caps/cam journals, not to mention metal particles getting into the oil pan, ect...just a bad idea to do this

yeah, I totally agree w/ ^^^^.... I have done this so I know it is bad. It ended up scoring my cam journals. The engine still ran fine but it scored the hell out of a few of them. And sad but true I had the original cam caps for that head, I just mixed up the ziplock baggies I had them in, labeled them wrong actually. G'luck

Ok, thats what I thought. I actually knew this all in the back of my head, but my patience wanted to do the "no no", lol.
