Does the fuel sender tell the fuel pump how to act in any way, shape, or form? I am trying to figure out just what is going on back there. I get a low fuel light on and off (even though I have plenty of gas) and then the fuel cuts out. I can feel it to sometimes when driving down the freeway. So I know the fuel sender probably is in charge of the low fuel light, but then why is the fuel cutting out?

I am going to try and change my fuel filter tomorrow and see what that does.

Fuel will only cut when there is physically not enough gas going to your engine when you are on it. But the sender will have nothing to do with that.

You could possibly have an electrical short inside the tank by the pump. The wiring could be an issue, as i have seen this before on other cars when replacing fuel pumps. Its easy enough to pull out the fuel pump assembly and inspect it, so i would start there.

Thanks! I do plan on doing that first. I just thought maybe fuel pumps just went bad or they don't. Wasn't sure if they could act up.
