I bought a timing belt from a napa store on ebay. the belt number for the napa timing belt is 25026.... I just want to make sure that it is the correct belt and someone has used it before. I cross referenced it online w/ napa and it says it is, but I got my timing on the first try, and I've turned it probably 5 times and it still all lines up, it feels a little loose between the cams, but maybe I'm just paranoid. I've done timing many times, but I cant remember how loose it is between the cams and I dont want to make a mistake when I start my new engine. Thanks

That's a pretty cheap tensioner! I wish I had gotten that instead of the mechanical one... would have been much easier!

How loose is the belt?

1/4 inch max, and that is counting me pushing up and then back down.. 1/4" total.

hmm well when I did it when I got it, it was the right one. I remember clearly. I'm not showing a price for the tensioner, how much is it for you? the belt I got, is the right one according to napa's computer when I called and verified it w/ them and also when I did it online, I dont know why it isnt now. I counted and there are either 151 or 150 teeth. the play I am getting between the cam sprockets is about 1/4 inch. which I think is pretty normal.

$64.99 for the tensioner.

Maybe, this is highly unlikely, but maybe there are different part numbers for different years? I put in 1995 Eclipse.

Turn the car on and see how it looks then.

Did you pull the pin out of the tensioner? (assuming hydraulic).

If mechanical... did you tension it correctly?

well mine is a 95 anyways, so I dont understand why the part numbers are different now.... I cant turn my car on yet, the engine isnt completely in. bout half way. it's been totally rebuilt and I have to hook up the alt. and ps pump and all and my electrical harness, then I'll try starting it. but thanks for the replies.. I'll post updates tomorrow when I start it.

I'm thinking that if you went around 5 times and it's still dead on, it will remain dead on.

Maybe I have OCD when it comes to these things (wait... I do) But I always double check (maybe more than that) that everything is set up correctly (hydraulic = pin is out), mechanical = bolt is torqued to spec and that the idler pulley is also torqued down correctly.

haha yeah I did all that. kept the torque wrench on the tensioner pulley, pulled the pin after 2 rotations... then did 5 rotations and its still dead on.. I just cant freakin believe I did it on my first try. I should play the lotto tonight, 240 million
