Ok, when i fire it up, it starts right away, then idle drops back down and dies right away. If i start it, and keep my foot on the gas, even a little bit, it keeps running, but it wont idle. What the hell is wrong with it? I've adjusted the idle on it to the maximum, still wont work. Its a 96 GS automatic.

It seems like everyone in that post's cars "almost die". Her car dies every time it is started. It sounds almost like a vaccuum line is disconnected, but i searched for a good 20 minutes, and couldnt find any.

*EDIT* uhg, nevermind, for some reason she had it in overdrive, which was making the engine bog.

I really do not understand how having the car in overdrive would cause it to have starting issues. I think you just got lucky and the problem will come back again.

Yeah you're right, it was a temporary fix. The car is acting up again. I cant get any straight answers out of her or my father about what its doing, and i'm about to tell them to take it to a mechanic, because i'm sick of taking random stabs in the dark. They are telling me that on a cold start, the engine wont idle, but if you start it up, and give it a little gas for a minute, till the car warms up, it will drive ok, and die periodically. Someone let me know what i can do to fix this. My eclipse never gave me any problems lol, i dont understand why its doing this.

While the car was running, i removed the sensor plug connected to the throttle body, IAC? It actually ran better. Should i replace this sensor? Also, is it the IAC?

Yeah, I would definitely go and replace that Idle Air Control valve. Actually, you can just take it out of the throttle body (replace the TB gasket, it'll probably break) and spray it down real good with carb cleaner; it's probably just sticking.

Edit:
Lol, you don't need to take off the TB, my bad. However, you might end up having to, because those 2 bolts holding that IAC in break a lot of the times, and require some force to take out. I only have 1 bolt holding my IAC in because the head of the other snapped off.

K, i actually removed the tb, and it was naaaasssttyy. All sorts of oil, and grimy shit. So i clealed that out really good with some brakleen, cleaned out the intake manifold, runs like a champ now. THanks for the help guys.
