96171, Engine Bolts question/ rod/piston question Posted by 420Adebt, Feb-03-06 01:11 PM
Hey guys. I am just about ready to start my rebuild. I have bought pretty much everything new. The only thing I didnt buy new were my rods/pistons(instead got a set of used from mitsu graveyard). I didnt b/c I dont have the money. My questions are: I should have asked before I did it, but I cleaned every single bolt that came out of my engine or goes into the block with my dremel using the wire brush. Is this ok to do? I hope so, it pretty much just removed all dirt and rust that was on there. my second question is I bought that chem dip stuff from autozone. It is the same chemical that is in carb cleaners to remove carbon deposits. Is it ok to soak my rods/pistons in there to remove all the carbon that was on them. Thanks in advance.

For the rod bolts, I'd suggest just getting new ones... they are not that expensive. I believe I spent $4-5 on new ones from a dealership.
