I took my car for a drive last night, (about 40-50 miles) and I returned to my home and parked it in the driveway and kept it running. After a few minutes, I noticed there was smoke billowing up from under the hood. I referenced the temp gauge and it was all the way up as far as it will go. One thing that I noticed right away was that the cooling fan was not running so I shut it off immediately. Im wondering if I might have hooked up the fan wrong but it's only two wires...what else could I be looking for as the culprit? (It's 3am and I dont feel like doing any troubleshooting right now)

The CLT temp sensor could have gone bad (the one to the ECU). Thus, your gauge works, but the ECU never knows that it's getting too hot.

Of course, when I was working on my Cav, I disconnected the CLT and the fan immediately kicked on as a precaution. I used this to determine that the ECU was bad (car wouldn't kick on the fans by itself).

Could be the computer.

PS. This is of course assuming everything's connected right which is the obvious first step. I believe if you did manage to connect the two wires backwards, it would just spin the other direction.

If you need to use parts from my car to see what works and doesn't on yours (like the ASD relays) let me know.

Dave jumper out the Fan relay to see if the fan kicks on. there are 4 wires at the drivers fan plug. you sure you go the correct 2 wires?

Thats no good at all dood. I mean. Super hot motor and just shutting it off. I would have went for a drive to cool it off imo.

I would have but there was no coolant in it because it all went into the overflow tank and out onto the driveway.

Watch out man. Thats how I warped my heads the first time.
