96153, Cams, valve springs...

My buddy told me that cams would do me good, he told me we might as well do valve springs and... rocker? or something, i dont know these things, sorry. Can anyone recommend some somewhere that i can find the part number for aftermarket ones that he can install for me. Like a part number or an actual place, he told me theyd be $300-$400. And then he said i can probably get this local shop to bend piping, stainless, 2.25-2.5 inch back to a muffler i purchase for under $180 installed. And he said i should get headers and just have them install them too.

Yes im a BANME!, yes i suck, flame me all u want...

Thanks in advance.

Edit: sorry he also told me to ask, what RPM the stock head can handle w/ the new cams, he said it might be like 8, or 8.2k, he knows nothing about 2g's, he has an integra he just pieced together a turbo kit for though.

crane cams: www.howellautomotive.com or for head components http://www.howellautomotive.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=406

Crower cams: www.exileracing.com or for exact head components http://catalog.exileracing.com/index.php?cPath=215_248_223&osCsid=35acfea4d7b7b4ed2e333126f9449c6a

I'd reccomend upgrading the valve springs if you do such. If you upgrade camshafts, new valve springs are HIGHLY reccomended, unless you like valve float at high rpms. I have 201k on my engine and it can still go to the rev limiter, but then again, I'm lucky.

The only way you can get past the stock rev limiter (7200 rpms) is with the AFX ECU (from what I know) and that will take you quite some time to recieve and works in a 97 vehicle, or if you don't have that and want it you can redo the sensors and wiring harnesses.

thank you so much, ill be sure to get this information to my buddy ASAP, 201k? damn, ive got 80,600, ill be sure to do springs, and as for the rev limiter, i guess its staying at 7200... hopefully like he said these will help increase performance, but i hear that these are good for people planning on turbo charged engines later on anyways, if i come up on a bundle of money i might even decide that that may be the best option for me later on, reason i had decided not to is i was extremely tight on money, however, i am making alot more than i was before...

You have an automatic transmission, we have manuals.
M/T : ~7200
A/T : ~6500

Another way to raise your rev limit safely above stock is with the Megasquirt EFI. And it's compatible with all years.

haha! I don't have personal experience with such parts, but I've been here for a while and have retained quite a bit knowledge.

From what I've read about here, I'd personally choose Crower cams and use their parts, but that is me. I'll eventually be going to Crower 2's along with the springs (if possible).

It may cost more, but I'd also reccomend upgrading to the PT style rockers.
