Hey guys whats up,
Here is my car...1995 talon mods, magnaflo 2.25in cat (stainless steel), unorthodox racing UDP,
AMS oil 0w-30, AMS oil filter, 160 degree thermostat, 16 x 7.5 cooper zeon 2xs tires mounted on 16'' rota gt3 rims, bosh platinum 4 plugs and wires, center force clutch and flywheel setup, new slave cylinder, suspension techniques rear sway bar.

Ok so i took off the stock manifold, let me tell anyone who hasn't; this thing is a tractor manifold..it weighs 15lbs and is a piece of shit GET RID OF IT!! and the oil pan is removed. My dad is making me a crank scraper and the design look pretty good, has anybody have one of these? I am also going to buy the DC sports 4-2-1 two piece header; yes I know the pacesetter is cheaper, but we bought one a while back and didn't like the flanges at all (my dad is an engineer and didn't approve of the flanges at all). I am wondering other people think of the DC sports header; someone once told me, “that this is like Paris Hilton compared to the Pacesetter. I am also going to get a CAI; I really like the Injen RD one, but haven't really herd much about it, anyone have it? I was dynod back in March at 119 whp without the pulley, I would really like some advice on some parts, and no I'm not going turbo right now, im still in high school and use the car for SCCA auto cross and would like to stay in sts class, also i am looking to get a high flow catalytic converter, anyone know if the manga flo is any good,

Thanks

Get the crank scraper its nice revs faster and smoother. when down shifting rpm'scome right up where they need to be.

I had no problems with the OBX 4-1 header. It's a ton cheaper and that's the only reason I am saying this. If you are paying for it then look into it, if you aren't then it doesn't matter. It does NOT come with the gasket to the cat but you can just buy a stock one if you want. Also, correct me if I am wrong but while a headers gain is very little if none, doesn't 4-2-1 keep low end torque while a 4-1 add higher end HP. If you are doing autox then a 4-1 would technically be your best bet but I don't think you will notice any gains to make a difference. Also, get a bored out TB, I would get a 55mm. Other than that, I would suggest saving for a turbo, some day you might want one like me and regret spending money on stuff like that.

Lose these. They are worthless. Plus, I hear the Platinum can flake off into your engine...

If your dad can weld and does not like the flanges on the Pacesetter, why not buy a cheap Pacesetter and modify it? No point in paying more than $250 for a new header for these cars. They do not provide peak power. I've had a used Pacesetter on my car for over two years now without any problems. It's been off-on-off-on again and again and it's holding up just fine. If the DC is Paris Hilton compared to the Pacesetter, just remember that Paris Hilton is a bitchy slut with tiny tits while the Pacesetter is the tomboy next door with big jugs that likes you.

If you live somewhere it rains, get a short ram. The only time to consider a full CAI of any type is when you've maxed everything else out and want to see what last couple ponies you can pull out of the motor. I live in Phoenix. It hasn't rained here in 99 days, yet I still run eBay short ram with a K&N on it. Same thing.

That's not too bad. I think we run 107 stock. Current record is 159whp, so keep it up. No worries on the no turbo plans. You're not alone.

STS, eh? I think the guys out here told me I could run in Street Mod or whatever, despite being fully built, but I have to stop the oilleak and replace the front bearings before I would want to risk her, since she's still my daily for a while longer.

MagnaFlow is fine. I had one for a while and loved it. After about four years, the carbon build up inside it made it sound obnoxious, but it's good stuff. A quality part.

Be smart with your money and don't let yourself be swayed by corporate propaganda relating to name brand intake and exhaust. For the minimal gains you get from those mods, your best bet is to be as cheap as possible.

Welcome to the fray.

As far as the CAI is concerned, you'll get the same result out of a piece of exhaust pipe with a KNN on the end of it so yea....I wouldn't spend too much money on that for a "BRAND NAME" part

As far as I'm concerned, brand name car parts are just like brand name jeans.

They're pretty much the same as everything else out there, minus the neat-o sticker with a logo on it :P

I had a shitty ebay CAI and it was great. Actual gain that you could feel. I mean, if you can feel 3 whp that is.

I'm not much of an "all motor" advocate. I soley believe that raising the cylinder pressure ABOVE atmosperic is the only way to go.

But that's just me.

Okay maybe not.

Oh shit, I wasn't supposed to reply to any all motor threads anymore.

FUK.

You can take yours to a machine shop and have them bore it out to 55mm, or you can buy this one if you plan to turbo your car in the future. http://www.modernperformance.com/dcx/eclipse_60mm_mpxtb.shtml

Dad's money? Tell you what. Show him this:

DC Sports header - $300(?)
Injen CAI - $200
TOTAL = $500 (give or take, depends on shopping)

Instead...

Pacesetter header - $150 (new)
eBay short ram w/ K&N - $ 75
TOTAL = $225.

This gives you $275 to play with. You can use a 60mm TB from a 4.0 Jeep I6 engine. It takes a little modification but it's cheap and done quite a bit around here so there are plenty of threads about it (including a write-up). You should be able to pull this off for under $100, imo. That would leave you with another $100 easily.

If you want some more general information about what can be done and what we suggest, you migh check out the power stages under the mods/tech tab on the home page. There should be a link to it on the top of the forum as well.

I'm all about helping out another all motor nut. :thumbsup

I used to have a SAFC II, but I sold it because if your are not runnig some big injectors and didnt see the need for it. It kinda depends on your plans. Personally I would recommend MS cause that is the way I want to go.

Hey man dont spend money that you dont have to. Make the money work for you. If you spend less on those it save money for more parts.
More parts = More POWER
There is nothing wrong with an OBX header, but I would go 4-1 as suggested earlier, and a regular ebay short ram intake. Don't waste your money on the mods that do little, save it up and get the big stuff. Thats a nice start at 119 whp though.

is $150 asking too much for a Greddy header?

And don't go the SAFC route, I seem to remember something about the SAFC affecting timing in a negative fashion. Just go MS and be happy with yourself that you did :thumbsup

Also, if you're going to go the all-motor route then you ought to also look into some serious weight-cutting alternatives, there's a lot of weight that SHOULD come out of our cars, you just have to find it. For example, the glovebox weighs about 9lbs give or take, that's one hell of a glove box!

It can advance your timing. On stock compression and higher octane gas, it has a positive, not negative effect, to an extent.

Advancing the timing is bad on turbo & nitrous, as you want to retard the timing with those.

I had one on my car and it seemed to make quite a bit of difference. Daniel (dyno'd 159 all motor) also used the AFC. However, on a stock motor, I don't think it's going to help much, if at all. I did it for my cams & ported intake, which caused it to run pig rich.

Wow.

My entire I/H/E set up ran me less than $100. And that's with a $65 K&N universal filter included. If you want to be a name dropper, more power to you, but I'd rather have more power to my wheels. :shrug

Stop wasting your dad's money on I/H/E name brand shit. Listen to DR1665, you can save quite a bit of money... actually, your dad can save quite a bit of money if ya'll just purchase a cold-air intake on ebay, as well as the exhaust that will perform and do the same fuctions as the name brand items you're getting/wanting to purchase.

ahhhhh!!...

We don't do bench racing here. Only a dyno can tell, but it's going to be well below 160whp for sure. :shrug

Use a K&N filter, and ditch the centerforce.
