Posted by boxer132c, Dec-29-05 10:41 AM
I went to go get my oil changed today and they said they couldnt do it because the drain plug is dented in and they were afraid that if they tiook it out they couldnt put it back in..
on top of that my oil filter is expanded it look like its going to explode on the under side of the filter.. WHat could have caused this???
The Dent is from me and I am going to get a new oil pan..but what about the oil filter, did that happen the same time I dented in the oilpan??

Posting in the wrong forum. I came by and took a shot at your oil pan with a ball peen hammer the other night. :P

Just kidding.

Change the oil yourself. You CAN do it. My pan has a dent right before the bolt and it might even be one of the many, many places where I lose oil. They're probably covering their ass because they recently forgot to tighten the drain bolt on someone's car, causing massive engine failure, which they then had to pay for dealership repairs. (As most people who get their oil changed don't know much about cars.)

You need less than $20 worth of tools, five bottles of oil, a filter, and about 30 minutes to do this yourself. Give it a shot, eh?

Maybe High Crankcase pressure caused the filter to expand? I don't know.

If you can't get the filter off using your hands or an oil filter remover, then i've had to stab it in the side with a large flat head screw driver and twist it off using the screw driver for extra leverage.

Do it yourself. No instructions needed. If you look underneath your car its prettyy easy to figure out, almost self explanatory if you think hard enough. You can do it.

If your car has been running fine then you probably just messed up the filter when bottomed out and dented the pan. Put a new filter on and if it happens again then I'd be worried.
