95193, return of the Indy manifold for the Neon?
Posted by DR1665, Dec-22-05 11:34 AM
I was doing some research on the Neon boards today and stumbled upon this guy. Seems to me they dropped the project last time I heard anything about it.

Interesting, if you ask me. I haven't given this much thought yet, but it seems to me that it would be easy to modify your intake pipe to use that, although it would end up on the passenger side of the bay...

Just thought this was interesting. Discuss?

Discuss what? it's a Neon part, and modifying it to fit a 2GNT head would probably destroy most of the benefit from it.

Convincing them to modify the casting would be an option, but the Neon market is big enough to justify something like that. The 2GNT market.. not so much. We'd have 500 people all excited, and two people that would actually fork over the cash.

well thats probably because most knowledgable 2gnt'ers know that you dont need to replae the factory intake mani. that bill hahn is running 10's on a stocker. the only people who buy the aftermarket ones are the ones that either didnt know this beforehand, are stubborn and bought it anyways to "show us", or are MAINLY concerned abotu looks and just wanted a diff mani to set them apart is suppose.

Actually, most knowledgable 2GNTers know that the factory intake manifold is a turd. There simply aren't any aftermarket intake manifolds that can do any better. That is why there is so much suggesting that people stick with the stocker. Since there is nothing out there better than the good old turd we got with the car, why drop $300 or more on a piece of shit that isn't going to do any better?

Bill's running a big turbo and a 100shot of nitrous. He could have a series of empty Miller High Life cans duct taped together for a manifold and it would make a shitton of power. :P

This is correct, of course.

You're 100% right, but it's a nice thought. This is where I lose any credibility I might have earned of late: both the Neon and 2GNT share the same head, with reverse flow being the main difference. Wouldn't this bolt to our head on the opposite side just like it would on a Neon? I'd check the folks' Neon, but it was stolen again. :P

Yeah. The only way this would be of any interest would be if there was a way to mount it to our engine. As I see it, one would more than likely have to use a Neon TB with a rerouted throttle cable, lose any cruise control (if equipped), and maybe work up a filter box that sat directly on the TB and vented through the hood or behind it at the base of the windshield.

It does have some nice features to it, though. Thought I would post up something a bit different to get some people thinking... :shrug

(And there is a really cool thread over there about all the guys running ITB set ups. Bitchin'.)

I think what would be the biggest thing to get in the way would be the firewall.

It'd hit the alternator bracket and/or timing belt cover. it also swings down and out, meaning it very well might hit the firewall well before anything else. if the changed the casting, made it turn up, and put the TB on the other side facing horizontally, it'd be a lot closer to fitting.

Or, if you turn the motor 90* counterclockwise... ;-)

Driggs, why not try a Neon head? I know, I know, the flow is reversed, but so what. Why not just add a neon head just like it would be in the neon? I found an old thread here about it, and I think with a LITTLE customization, it could work.

I could be completely wrong, and way off, but it's worth a second look. This way you could use the cams you wanted and that IM. This would be cool for the all motor guys.

Because I paid ERT and Eddy Fierro right around $2,000 for the head I have on the car right now. You can't swap portwork and 5 angles to another head.

And thanks, Terry. That was awesome.

oooohhhhhhh yea, forgot about that, lol. Yea, I probably wouldn't throw $2,000 out the window either. But hey, if it could be done it would be great for the all the other guys wanting to go all motor.

The mating surfaces look almost symmetrical. I wonder if you could just turn to the upper half/furthest half 180 degrees so that the throttle body would face the drivers side. But I dont think i would ever spend a couple hundred for this manifold just to see if it works, or even if it did work for that matter.
