94905, Will an early model 1995 ECU (pre-sept.'94) work with a post-sept.'94 model 1995 car? Posted by T_K, Dec-01-05 04:11 AM
Are there any serious differences?

I don't think there will be any diff.

You don't? I would think that the only ECUs found with a build date before Sept95 would be for a 1G. I had practically the first 2GB Talon on the road in Kansas the weekend after Labor Day in 96. (For you, my canookistanian friend, that would be second week of September.) ;)
Pretty sure you're pressing your luck with a 1G, OBDI ECU if you're talking pre-Sept1995. :shrug

What the hell are you talking about???? My car was made in 94, april of 94 if I'm not mistaken. And, as far as I know, it should work. However, the OBDI vs OBDII makes me wonder if that's why there's a cut-off date (early 94 vs late-94+) in the 95's.

Disregard.
EDIT:
Well, he DID day he's talking about a PRE-SEPT 1994 ECU. How many 2Gs were on the road before September 1994? :wary (Maybe I'm mildly retarded and was just never told this.)

My car was built June of 94.

That's in reference to build date, not date it was put on the road. The cars were built several months prior to being released. When was the 4g released, think about it. I'm sure there were some 06 eclipses out around september 05, so they would have had to be manufactured prior, same with the 2g.
**EDIT** Take a look at the VIN sticker inside your door, it will have your build date there. I'm guessing your car's a 97 (2gb), but since you got it in sept. of 96, the build date is probably early 96, maybe even late 95.

My car was build nov.'94 and I was offered a pre-sept. ECU. Now I ordered one that supposedly is proper for me but we'll see next week when it comes.

nope it won't work well in an at car anyways. I have a 95 at talon at and so does corbin, not to speak 4 anybody, but the schmatics are totally different. as is the part #'s, and wiring harness pinouts

Ok back to the original question. As long as the connector on both ECU's is the 1995 version connector, they will both start the car.

The problem is the EGR and various smog components changed a lot in 1995, and so chances are, a replacement 1994-1995 2gnt ECU that does not match your old part number exactly WILL give you a CEL for something. The dealership can update the flash on the ECU for about $100 to get rid of the CEL in most cases.
I've personally run 3 different 94-95 ECU's with all different model numbers in my 95 car, and they all worked fine except for the CEL's.
Also, there is no such thing as "OBD1". It's either ALDL (1g) or OBD2 (2g). All 2G's are OBD2 compliant. Even 1995s.
