Hey all

The car is a 1997 RS. I spun a rod bearing and now it s all crapped out.

I need to get a new engine or rebuild this one. ( i don t have much advanced experience....)

What engine can fit in my car ?

Any of you guys know a place in the southeast that is known for selling used/reman engines ?

I need to go the cheapest way right now...

You would have better luck posting in the Sale/Wanted section. Your gonna need a 420A motor.

As far as what engine will fit in your car, you should probably just stick to the 420a 2.0L motor that's in there. You can fit a 2.4, but when you say you "don't have much advanced experience", you might want to just stick with what ya got.

In terms of your spun rod bearing, I would suggest just rebuilding it. If you don't feel comfortable with doing that, call some machine shops and see what they charge.

For just a rod bearing (assuming the crank's not damaged), I'd just build it. If you plan to go turbo, now's a perfect excuse to go forged internals as well.

I just reread your question. In my opinion, (others can chime in here) I would pull the motor, have the cranked turned down as little as possible and buy some oversized rod bearings and put it back in. The bearings themselves aren't a huge cost, and the machine work should be reasonable. Heck, you might want to do all the bearings on the bottom end while you're down there.

Option #2-Get a Neon bottom end. Now, to do this you'll have to swap over the tranny, head and assorted other goodies.

Your EASIEST option would be to get another Eclipse motor, but you'll still have to pull/install engines. My thought is that as long as you have it pulled, just refresh the bottom end and be done with it.

Well, that's my opinion anyways....

you don't need to swap the tranny if you get a neon short block !

just get a complete 420a from an eclipse, talon, sebring or avenger

or a neon dohc 95-99 short block and put back your old head, manifolds and oil pan on it and while you're at it put new rings, headgasket and timming belt

Sorry for the confusion. I meant "swap" by taking the tranny off the old motor and putting it on the new motor. Not that he'd have to get another (different)one. Unless he just left the whole tranny setup in the car....
