94386, Oil Leak.. need help..
Posted by b1itzeclips, Nov-09-05 12:51 PM
So after i swapped my motor out for the howell 2.2 long rod stroker, I've noticed a little problem within a week or two after the swap. I'm leaking maybe a table or teaspoon of oil over every night.. Ive check everything out and it seems like the oil is leaking from an bolt almost. I took it into my uncle's shop and we put it on a lift and it seems as if i've blown the little O-ring by the oil filter adapter and oil port at the bottom of the block.. So ive done the whole swap and now i'm losing about a quart of oil every 1 or 2 weeks.. I'm not sure exactly what to do at thispoint, my uncle says im gonnna have to drop or pull the motor out again and replace the seal because its internal and almost impossible to reach. So right now im waiting on what to do because I'm lost... I called Gary up about it and he said it could be a defect from the factory and to check our blueprints of the motor layout again.. We did, and it cant be anything other then that seal.. the filter sits properly and the oil pan isnt loose either... anyone have some input or ideas please feel free to let me know, I NEED HELP (or no boost)!!

Heheheh I wonder if they forgot to put the O-Ring at the bedplate jxn. I had that happen to me, and it looks like the oil leak was from the filter block.

I also have the 2.2L stroker from Gary, and let me guess it is dripping down the filter a little and there is also oil on the side of the oil pump body right over there by the timing componets right?

I swear I replied to this thread already, but maybe my opinion wasn't welcome. :shrug If it's leaking there, either the o-ring is missing or needs replaced. It requires pulling the engine, yanking the bedplate, replacing the o-ring, resealing the bedplate, and reinstalling the motor. No other way as far as I know. Sorry.

Maybe not if you are both on the 2.2L. I re did the whole oil pump seal and I re did the oil filter mount o-ring and I still had the leak. It ended up being that the oil pump priming bolt was not tight. So for you blitze I think that might be your issue if it is doing as I described above. Because my oil would show up on the back side of the motor on the oil pump body and drip down to the oil filter area. If you did not prime the pump using that bolt before you installed the motor it is likely loose and letting some oil out. As for you Mike it is a cheap shot before you do anything drastic. Where is yours leaking Mike? Is it coming from the bedplate seal?

and BTW

Kirby, I cannot honestly tell where its coming from. It drips down the oil filter and then onto the floor, lol. There is a tiny but of oil around the bottom of the oil pump too. I primed my oil pump though before it was installed when I rebuilt the engine. First I thought it was the oil adapter o-ring so I replaced that and still got it. I was going to try the oil pan gasket next, but I know I am DEFF not pulling the fucking engine to fix it if its that o-ring in the bedplate. I thought the bedplate would come off though withought pulling the motor....

Can the bedplate be lowered off the block with the motor installed? I think there is only 1 bolt through the bedplate into the transmission. and the tranny will hold the crank up on that side, and the timing belt and maybe a jack stand under the oil pump will hold that side? man, i just found out mines leaking really bad from the bedplate right above the oil filter...

I wouldnt wory about the leak as long as its not hurting anything.I had my block built by a company in utah and I have a oil leak coming from one part by the bedplate. We pulled the motor a 2nd time and put more sealant on and its still leaking for some reason. I just said screw it and put a half a quat in every 2 weeks.

Tell me about it. Every time I park after driving for a while a have a little smoke from the oil burning on my exhuast. Not to mention it a mess underneath my car. But I would rather deal with that than pull my engine for the 3rd time and maybe have it still leaking after that too.

Before you go crazy with dropping your bed plates check you cam seals. I had a similar problem with my 2.0 and I thought it was the bedplate. It wound up being the cam seal allowing oil to drip down and it seems to puddle and drip off right in that area. Juat a thought for those who have already tried the bedplate.
