How hard is it to install cam gears onto our cars...I have a 1997 Eclipse RS.... just curious.... Thanks

Oh yeah and if it's hard or anybody just went to a shop....what price did you get for the install...and did you get anything else with the install or just the cam gears.....ex. like new water pump, pulley, or even timing belt....

If you are going to install new cam gears, then I would just go ahead and do a 60K service. If you feel really adventurous then you might want to replace the head gasket with an upgraded one...

I SECOND that notion to replace the head gasket, it's about 3 hours more labor, but it can and will save your engine, would have saved mine. If you decide to do it yourself, buy a shop manual, and not a Chilton's, the real deal from Mitsubishi.

16" wheels w/Yokohomo tires (215/40)

17” Hart racing wheels

how much does the actual head gasket run? any gain from it, what about total ring seal, how much different is this?

depends on the head gasket you want but on average, they are less than 50 bucks, generally around 30.

you have have a very small performance gain from getting a thinner head gasket, it increases your compression, but to my understanding it isn't quite as safe.

I got a total ring seal with my engine rebuild. What it is, is a high HP head gasket that is actually part of both the head and the block. There are groves made in both the head and the block to seamlessly accept a headgasket. It is a much better seal, and can handle as much hp as you can throw at it. But it isn't cheap, my shop charged me around 300 for the machine work, then the gasket would have to be around another 100. But you have to actually pull the engine, and take off all the accessories, and wait a few weeks.. so unless your doing a complete engine overhaul w/turbo, it isn't worth it.
