My car is idling like it has a perf. cam in it, and needless to say, it doesn't. It runs fine, but when it's idling, it VERY lopey. I was running it hard for a while, and then about 10 minutes later it started doing that. I've unhooked my battery (just + post, don't know if that matters). I arc'ed my battery a few weeks ago on accident with a wrench, but it ran fine after that. Could it perhaps be shitty gas? Cam sensor? Cam gear? ECU? Help please!!!

open the little window on your timing belt cover and make sure it hasn't jumped time on you. If it has, time to change it out.

There seems to be a little reddish-pink notch on both of my cam gears. Mine are no where near eachother, aren't they supposed to line up? Also, how safe is it to drive it in it's current state? I don't get paid for another week, is it cool to drive it until then? Also, would investing in some adjustable cam gears be worth it?

heh. make sure to take out all your sparkplugs... makes turning the motor much easier, lol. heh.

I need to get a picture of my timing check set up. I got tired of ripping all that shit down just to look, so I used the Dremel and cut a window in the cover behind the UDP so I could see the crank sprocket and mark. Then I installed the UDP so that that crank mark was always at the center of one of the holes in the UDP. I also removed the top half of that cover. Now, if I suspect timing is off, I can raise the car, pull one wheel, and use a wrench to manually turn the engine over until all the marks (hopefully) line up properly. Don't know how I ever lived without this mod. :P

I'm wanting to take it about 30 miles to have this guy look at it. Is it safe to drive it that far? Need answeres ASAP please!

I drove it to the guys house, and it drove fine, but still, whenever the clutch is in or it's in neutral, it starts loping. I did kill it one time, and I noticed the "CRUISE" light came on, which I remembered I thought I'd "fixed" the cruise a few weeks ago because there was no hose connected to my cruise box. Well, with the engine running I took the hose off, and immediately my idle shot up to almost normal, still a tiny bit of a lope, but not nearly as bad. Also, the hose was sucking in air like mad crazy, which I don't remember it ever doing. Could it be my throttle body is blocking off all the air to the engine at idle? Or since the camgear jumped, is it just making my engine need more air? Sorry for the 3 posts in a row. Thanks in advance for help!

Double and triple check your timing if you have to. If your timing belt jumps too far it can lead to much worse issues. After that I would also check your IAC sometimes they can be bad or just plugged up. I would say most likely it's just the timing belt being off a tooth or two. Fix the timing problem then go from there. If you still have an issue with the Idle then you can check other things that would restrict idle Air flow into the engine.

And I would suggest driving it as little as possible til you can resolve the issue completely I wouldn't want to have you posting next week that the timing belt jumped some more and now you need Valves or something.
