94346, HELP!! Car bucking like a Mule!! Poss Ign., fuel prob? kinda long Posted by foggy45, Nov-07-05 01:40 PM
heres the deal, when i get on the gas med to hard about 3k rpm it bucks liek it misfires or somthing. i can hear the report come out of the intake. it dosent happen at the same rpm or the same gear either, but i can never do a full on redline run. if i ease into the gas i can make it almost to redline before it bucks. (by bucking i mean a sudden loss of power then its back on again. like hi-rpm fuel cut) oh, and the CEL blinks off then on again when it bucks. my car is a 1996 Eclipse GS w/ a 98 engine. Greddy header, straight pipe and HKS exhaust all heat wraped. Injen Race CAI. EGR block off kit. idles very smooth at 16mmhg w/ no creep or bounce on the gauge. oil pressure is steady across the range too. i have changed some things to help this problem to no avail. runnign NGK plugs -11e iirc? (2 ranges hotter)gaped to .65 as per instructions, Magnecor 8mm wires and a Screamin Deamon coil. changed back to stock coil and regaped plugs to .50 and still bucked. kept gap and changed to deamon coil. nope still bucks
Pulling the codes dosent reveal anything other than EGR flow(duh)
Help Guys/Gals!! i just want this problem to be solved before i boost!

#1 get stock range plugs, 2 heat ranges will cause serious problems, esp when boosted. I bet you already have a crack in the insulator of the plug
stock gap is .045 or so. go to that
coil pack doesnt matter
so.. get stock heat range plugs, gap to .045 and try that
your obviously misfiring..

Possibly but I would definately address that plug issue.

i thought of the MAP sensor but they wanted $140 for it so i thought i would try somting different first.
.45 huh? OK i try that. i just thought that with the better spark i was suposed to widden it?

I had the Screamin Demon on my Avenger, and I had bosch platinums that I gapped to .065". They worked great with the Screamin Demon, no misfiring, so I would say the .065 gap is fine with the extra volts the Screamin Demon puts out. I would try to change the plugs for the right heat range though.

Maybe the fuel line or pump. My friend had a 96 eclipse with the same problem and it was the fuel line.
