hi i got my engine rebuilt recently with pistons and everything the whole rebuild kit from howell.

well after the engine got installed the ecu was screwed so that was replaced

now its running but without the speedo which the mech says i need a sensor.
every once in awhile i be on the highway then i notice the CEL come on then i press the clutch n put it in neutral n let it roll.
the rpm just drops straight down to 0 n stalls, or engines dies.
i turn the key or put it back in gear engine would start again but once i let the rpm drop again it dies again. but then maybe next day it starts working fine but its been happening alot lately
any help would be appreciated.

If your speedo sensor is bad then you will can a condition where the engine dies or trys to die upon pushing in the clutch. If you search you will realize this.

so your saying because i dont have a speedo it dies sometimes trying to find it?

yes, the ECU uses the tach signal to keep the rpm's around 1000 until you stop. This is because when you push in the clutch the ECU is still adding fuel for the load that was on the motor, now that the motor is spinning at lets say 3k rpm and no load, the ECU basically floods the cylinders and cant recover fast enough.

Since you have no Speedo sensor the ECU cant predict the corrct fuel mixture. I am sure there are other reasons our ECU is programmed like that such as power steering control but that is the basic idea.

If im not mistaken also while your going down the road at 60 mph or any speed for that matter and your car stalls when you push the clutch in all you need to do is let the clutch out and the car should fire right back up, no need to put it in neutral and turn the key??? :scratch

yeh u can jus release the clutch in gear n it will fire back up.. but my engine jus got built it car jerks when i do that like not in the right gear n im afraid to hurt the engine
