This site has been the reason I do most of the work on my car now. You guyz ROCK!!!!

I've searched but I have been unable to locate any kind of write up on installing a shortblock. I found the overhaul manual which does not include installation info. Does anyone know where to obtain a write up on the installation?

Slightly off subject, I've decided on either the Howell or SlowBoy Racing 420A short block with Eagle Rods and Wiseco Pistons with 8.8:1 compression with the intentions of being Turboed by January. The head was rebuilt in June 2005 after I let the timing belt break. Would using this head be ok with pushing 12PSI? I don't mind working on the head but would rather wait until everything else is up to par and let's face it $1,500.00 or so is a nice chunk of change.

Stock heads are fine for turbocharging. Nothing is required in the (cylinder) head for that. ;-)

imo throw out the Wiseco Pistons, ther junk and not that stong, i actually know a friend that had detonation issues with thos pistons, he said sumtin about the way they polished the top or sumthin another...iono, je all the way imo

x2 for getting other pistons. JE or Venolia imo. (ERT)

Also, pretty sure there's a sticky link at the top of this forum titled "Engine Building for Dummies." Corbin talks about installing the engine in that write up of his. Besides, just reverse the steps you made takin the old block out, right? Right.

Good information guys.

I'll stick with JE pistons. I spoke with Mark at Slowboy who stated that Wiseco and JE are owned by the same company. Don't know if this is true but he said swapping for JE would be more expensive. As it stands, their shortblock and Howells are the exact same price when you add the oil pump to the SBR shortblock. Howells presence on this site and their JE pisitons have me leaning towards Howell.

Corbin's write up was outstanding. It did not include an actual write up on removing the block from the car but it shouldn't be that hard either way.

I can't wait. If all goes well, I'll be up and running with turbo by January. Wish me luck!!!

Just make sure you mark things that your not quite sure about sensor wise and such when removing the engine from the car. Also If you need to grab a box of zip lock backs and a sharpie and mark the bags with where the bolts came from helps sometimes when it comes to reassembly.

Yeah...been there done that. When I installed the body kit, it seemed like I had a lot of extra bolts sitting around:)

Dam, I remember that thread. I've got to do that all over again, something happened to my clutch, again. It won't disengage. The line is bled, master/slave cylinders are fine, the piston at the slave cylinder moves, the pedal "feels" normal, etc... Goddamn car. I am so unmotivated with this thing...

I completely understand how you feel.

I have heard many bad things from short blocks from SBR... check on tuners

Make sure you get your head milled flat to ensure a good seal. You don't want to put it all together just to get a leaking headgasket because the surface of the head wasn't flat.
