I'm having idle problems (on a 2gnt? Unbelievable, I know), so I searched, and changed my PCV valve/line, and the vacuum line that come out of top of the TB. So today, I'm searching for every damn thing that could possibly transfer vacuum, and I took a look on the back of my air intake manifold, and I saw a hose with three lines coming out of it. The one furthest to the left was connected to nothing, just sort of hanging there, and it had a bulge on the end of it like there used to be somthing connected there at one time. Is this normal? If not, what SHOULD it be connected too? Also, are there any vacuum lines that I'm missing? Thanks a lot in advance guys!

P.S. FYI, my idle goes to about 1500, and then hovers for a second, and then either drops, or surges up to 1750-1800, and when I turn the wheel it goes up to about 2100, if that helps diagnose the problem. Also, and this has only happened once, I tried to start my car, and the rpms went to about 1000, and then drop to like 4, and then came back up again. I appreciate all the help fellers!

If you are standing in front of the car and looking at the back of the manifold, the hose on th left should go to your evap canister. I will look tomorrow after work to see if I messed up and post my finding. Hope this helps.

Do you have cruise control?

Well, the cruise doesn't work, but neither does my speedometer. However, the previous owner told me that since he had it the cruise never worked.

Also, isn't the evap canister towards the front of the car? Like inside the bumper cover or somthing? I'll give it a look today and see what I can't find. Could this be my idle problem?

Alright, after a few minutes of looking around, I found a thin black tube, that had a bulge on the end of it, as if it were to hold a hose, so I plugged it in to the mystery hose, and it was a perfect fit. Right after I started it, it started idleing a little weird, around 1300rpm, kind of lopey almost, like I had a cam in it. After driving it for a few minutes, though, it went away, probably just needed to warm up. However, now it appears my idle is speed-dependent. When I push in the clutch and coast to a stop in neutral, the RPMs stay steadily at around 1100, 1200 RPM's, and when I come to a COMPLETE stop, it drops back down to 900 or so. Is this normal, or maybe the IAC? Also, since I have a CAI, my IAT is just sort of chilling out dangling in my engine bay, might that be causing an idle problem?

Nope this is normal all our cars do this, nothing to worry about.

You have the IAT just dangling in the engine bay? Please tell me you plugged the hole at least.

Yeah, I did. Plus it's strapped to a wire, so it's not really just "dangling", I just didn't know if it being so exposed would cause a problem.

the IAT not being in the manifold could have something to do with it, mine just went out last week and the idle will hang around 1500 sometimes. And if I rev the motor and it is coming down it will hit 1500 and go back up to 2000 then back down. So put it back in and see if that solves the problem.

find out for sure where that vacuum hose is supposed to go to cuz that is NOT normal. Having a CAI will not affect the position of the IAT. It is screwed into the intake manifold. I beleive that thing that is dangling in your engine bay was once part of the secondary air injection system which was removed from the vehicle. since hooking up that loose vacuum line have you checked to see if you have cruise control?

That dangling vac line that was on the left side of the manifold *should* be your crusie control as the other guys have said. The hose should run down the back of the block and plug into an air box located just next to the alternator when looking at it from under the car. I believe it plugs in on the right side of air box. The middle connection should be your stock fuel pressure regulator (if you still have one) and the connection on the right should run to your EGR. Sounds like you have a vac leak and that's why your idle has high. I'd check to see if you have CC now as mentioned.

I haven't checked my cruise, but my idle problem is fixed now. I think the reason it ran a little rough at first was because I also unhooked my battery for a few minutes, and then hooked it back up. If I actually have cruise now, I'm going to crap everywhere, that would make my day. Thanks for all the help guys!

I'm Glad to hear you have the idle problem under control. Unfortunately, if your speedometer doesnt work, your cruise control will not function. If you dont mind me asking, why doesnt your speedo work?

Lol, yep, that's what I figured, I just got back from trying it to no avail. The previous owner told me that it needs a new speed sensor. I also know that there is no miles being put on the cars odometer when I drive it. The guy was totally up front about that, and said that it quit working about 2 weeks prior to me buying it, and he was completely honest about everything else, and I talk to him on occasion, so I'll believe him. Every now and again the speedo will work for a few seconds, but then it drops back down again.

If it works every now and then and falls down again then it's not your sensor. Either the small speedo gear (red) that is attached to the sensor is not engaging properly -or- the actual ring gear on the diff. inside your transmission came off. It's actually fairly common, but it's a bitch to fix. My guess it is the latter. You'll probably have to drop the tranny, crack the bell housing open and reattach it. There is really no other way to fix this - I've tried.

do you know how to access your speed sensor? It's pretty much directly underneath the throttle body on the mtx. (the battery has to come out) There is one 10mm fastener holding it in but it is still sometimes hard to get out because it has an o-ring on there too. inspect the gear that is clipped onto the speed senor itself. It may be black or red. (i myself didnt know it could be red; thanks for the info) Let us know what you find out. Thanks for the additional info, Techboy

The ones that come with the car are usually black. All the aftermarket ones I've seen are red. Mopar changed color for some reason.
