First let me describe whats going on. When I go to start the car it will turn over, but go down to about 200 rpm, then start idling at about 1200. When I put it in reverse I can back up, but with some hesitation, and then when it comes to a stop, the car dies. Likewise, when the car is in drive (A/T) it will keep going until I let off the gas at which point the car just shuts off. The radio and lights still work but dim when the car shuts off.

I'm getting codes 42 and 41.

Code 41: Generator field not switching properly, check Harness and connector / Alternator

Code 42 shows the following:
-MFI relay (ASD relay) control circuit, check Harness and connector / Fuel pump relay

-No MFI relay (ASD relay) output voltage at PCM, check Harness and connector / MFI relay (ASD relay)

-Fuel pump relay control circuit, check Harness and connector / Fuel pump relay

The coil pack was replaced last month, and the spark plugs were changed yesterday. The car has been acting up like this for about 4 of 5 days now.

Please somebody give me some suggestions.

Get under the car and check the harness at the alternator and elsewhere. Make sure everything is connected and not looking chewed up in any way. If you get it running, take it to Autozone and they will test the entire charging system for free.

These relays are the two larger units on the firewall (driver's side near the washer bottle). Make sure they are connected right. Disconnect them and then reconnect them so you know they're good to go. They should have a grease on them to keep shit out of the contacts. Also, check the wires leading away from them to make sure they aren't shorting out due to a cut or worn insulation.

I doubt either of these have anything to do with your problems.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't been able to look underneath the car yet (lowered, no jackstands), but the connections on the firewall seemed to be secure. I started it up and could notice a gasoline smell.
