First off I should give a brief summary why I'm replacing this engine. I have a 95 RS that I somehow managed to total while on R&R from Iraq (no I wasn't drunk, no it wasn't raining). So I did what any respectable 2gnter would. Hopped on Ebay and Bought another 2gnt. $620 later and paying for my mother to drive the 240 miles to pick it up in Vermont. I now have a 96 GS with a blown motor.

Well I have a complete running driveline still in the 95 sitting in the garage back home waiting to be stripped of everything I have put in it in the last 5 years (and a few extra's just incase).

So the plan is to strip down the RS and swap motors and all my performance parts. while I have the good engine out I'm planning to replace the following parts:

1) Oil and Water pumps
2) Timing belt and pulleys
3) TB gasket (GS has Cruise so I'm swapping TB's)
4) VC gasket
5) Oil pan gasket (My oil pan is dented on the bottom and I'm planning on replacing it while I have it out)
6) UDP and belts
7) Fuel injector O-rings (to swap fuel rails)
8) seals for all sensors that I have to swap from the 96 engine block

I would do the head gasket and valve seals(130k on motor), but I'm planning to rebuild a spare engine I have that has bad rings. I just need the car running as fast as i can get it done (yeah i know never rush anything in a DSM) so i can drive it daily.

If any one has any other suggestions or something I may have over looked please let me know now before I get homw from this sand box so I can order the parts i need prior to getting there to have them on hand. Thanks alot on advance for any and all input.

You look to have a pretty good list.

I would also look at

1. Inspecting/replacing all vacuum and coolant hoses.
2. Inspect downpipe flex section for damage/corrosion.
3. Replace belts.

Anyone else..I'n sure I'm overlooking something

As far as the vacuum lines go I replaced them all 2 summers ago in my 95 and checked them recently (right before I totaled after installing my EGR block off kit from CI).

The Flex section is no longer an issue since I already have a pacesetter 4-2-1 (that I will be upgrading to ceramic coating). I would like to add that I actually prefer this header to alot of the others on the market as is has 2 1/4" collector and 3/8" flange. It out flows any other I have ever used on the 2gnt and does not sacrifice lower end grunt due to the 4-2-1 design.

I mentioned the belts along with the UDP (number 6)but thank you for looking out.

im not exactly certain but i think the controller for the cruise control is wired into the 96 eclipse's wiring harness. If the 95 didnt originally come with cruise control then you may not be able to make it work unless you swapped harnesses. It may just be that the connector for the cruise is on the 95 harness but it just isnt used because the cruise option isnt there. Ive done a 97 -> 95 swap and the whole harness had to be swapped to make it work. anyway im just rambling. if it works then im happy for ya. if not, sorry to rain on your parade

The only electronic part I'm using off the 95 other than the ALT is the my MSD coil pack (yes I know they are different I'm gonna splice the pigtail from my 95 to the 96 harness). From other posts I've read and from previous experience the cruise is attached to the chassis of the car and has a cable that runs to the TB (please correct me if I'm wrong) along with the throttle cable. The 96 chassis has cruise So I'll be using the harness that is already in the car and I'll be swapping the engine and tranny as a unit (no need to replace the clutch since my CM stage 3 only has 3500 miles on it, and the tranny was new june 04). Then I am swapping the TB off of the 96 engine to accomidate for the cruise control cable.

There is no difference in the TB's whether you have cruise of not. So you wouldn't really have to swap the TB's if you didn't want too. You'll just need the vac. box that's attached to back of the short block and the cruise control cable that has that little black metal box attached to it - it's in the upper left had corner of the engine bay by the strut tower. You'll then have to do something electronically to make it all work. Like the guy said above ^^^, you may need to rig the harness.

Otherwise your list looks good. You might want to check the cams and cam bearings for wear while you have the head off.

Hmmm, my 95 rs (good engine bad body) did not have cruise. The 96 GS (bad engine good body) does. I will be using everything electronic that is already in the 96 (to include the cruise and harness), so I shouldn't have to do any kind of splicing or rigging of the harness to make the cruise work. Just tear the bad motor out swap in the good one transfer all the electronics, sensors, and other items (thanks for telling me about the vacuum box I was unaware of it) then splice my coil pack pigtail to the 96 harness (I just bought an MSD coil pack for the 95 right before I wrecked it) and I should be set.

I guess my question is more... Is there any parts that I don't have on my list that I should buy for this swap? I need to get at least another year out of this engine before i can afford to put another one togather.

oh nevermind i didnt know where i was going with that. if you're putting the 95 rs engine into the 96 gs then dont pay attention to any of that stuff said about swapping cruise control compnonents. i misread and thought you were putting the gs engine into the rs an retaining cruise control. my bad. what you are doing will work

Well..I here is how i am doing it ......don't know if it's right but it works.

First you need to find a file hosting site. I use www.putfile.com

Then when you get your free account activated you can upload the pic you want to post to putfile.

go into your account and view your saved photos. towards the bottom you will see 3 copy buttons. They don't work for $h1t so ignore them. Using the link in the http box highlight the "http://x1.putfile.com/somthingorother/filenumber" without quotes. You will have to click in the box and look for this specific line. right click select copy.
reply to or create a post. paste link into message and hit preview post to see of it worked.

This was the only way I figured to post pics. Let me know if you need more assistance.
