My battery exploded and caused a fire last week. I know the optimas are gel type. What do you guys recommand. I was thinking a red top. Summit sells 4 red tops. Which one should I get or should I look at another brand.

Whatever is cheapest, imo lol. Unless you have a big sound system or live in a very cold area for parts of the year, the type of battery shouldn't need to be anything special. Just go to an Autozone or something along those lines.

Plus there's no need to order an optima from summit. I think most of the parts houses have optima's.

optima yellow top works fine, so does any other battery that fits, its just a battery, unless you have a system just get a regular one from the parts store

optima red top has a very nice price at 110.00 from any parts store. Or just get a quality name brand battery liek interstate or AC/Delco. Battery is a preference thing. I use An AMS Racing battery (about the size of my harley battery - thats the reason)

I got my Yellow Top new off eBay for $100 shipped. Lucky I guess?

My red top took a shit on me after 3 years of service. Ended up going to Autozone and purchasing the Duralast Gold for 65$. Atleast they came with a 3 year coverage.

3 years still kinda sucks. Here at work, we have an 84 month prorated warranty with 2 years free replacement. They're truestart batteries from interstate.

Never had any upgraded battery - even when Daisy was pushing 1500W in the hatch. When the OEM took a shit, I replaced it with an Autozone Duralast Gold. Free 3yr replacement. 34 months later, it died. I went in, put the old one on the counter and they gave me a brand new one. About 35 months later, that one died. I went to Autozone, tossed it up on the counter and they gave me a new one. See a trend?

Right now, that third Duralast Gold is sitting on a bench in the garage awaiting delivery to Autozone to be replaced. For free. Fuck a bunch of name brand battery whoring. I think I paid $70 for my Duralast back in 2000 and I've not paid a dime since.

Oh. And to the new guy who said to be sure to buy a battery hold down, most of our cars came with that. It's something like common sense. :rolleyes

One thing ,also, to keep in mind with any battery you buy, make sure you use the battery hold down bracket so the battery doesn't jump around and trigger something another fire or explode....especially if you have a front upper strut bar....

i actually had to make one of those for my car... looks better than the stock one, imo

Screw Optima and their batteries. I'll never own another optioma battery in my life. I went thru 3 yellow tops that all decided to discharge. Only reason why I went with a yellow top was because I had a system in muh truck craving 1000 watts. I was dumb and paid $160 back in 2001 for the first one. After getting the car back from the paintshop last August, I decided it looked like hell and it was a piece of junk so I tossed the battery and bought a cheap die hard for $25 on sale for temporary use.

Right now I'm not 100% sure whats in there right now, I havnt seen the car since I came home from the shootout, its been at the audio guru's place. .... I'm done yapping
