Alright i need all the info possible on the JE Forged pistons for our cars, i have been getting alot of conflicting info, all the 4g63 guys i hang around with have been telling me they are peices of shit basically and not to get them but then I have sean (thunderous talon) telling me other wise so if at all possible i would like to actually hear from people that have them or just plain out know alot about them. mainly life of the pistons street drivablity stuff like that. just to let u know the reason for these pistons is i have a chance to get them crower rods and everything for a very low price and will be planning on pushing boost. thanx in advance for all info.

Je piston are made for the 420A engine. JE also makes rods also.
You can also chek with forward motion at(302) 658 2829. they
do alot of dodge engines they did the new neon in IDRC that runs 9.78's. you can get rods pistons, and knife edge crank lightened and balanced. Or you can check with Gude to. GUDE .com

JE does not make connecting rods. I'm not sure where you got that information? Most likely the guys that said they are POS didn't know what they were doing, or whoever built the engine didn't. Probably the same people who bring in warrantied stuff and look puzzled when asked if they checked their ring end gap. Bottom line, if you can the pistons for cheap, GET THEM. How long they live on a street engine depends on a few things. Alloy, piston-to-bore clearance, ring land widths/placement(especially forced induction applications), ring sizes, pin offsets, pin oiling, skirt designs, cam shapes,etc. Just make sure whoever does the block machining, and engine assembly, is a proven, competent, intelligent individual. I can't stress that enough! Oh, and if you want some kind of credibility, my brother and I have been working at Wiseco Piston for over 5 years, and my dad for over 12. We were bought out by Dover Diversified about 2 years ago, and since have aquired JE Piston, and Carrilo Rods. They grouped our 3 companies together and call it "PMI", or Performance Motorsports Inc.

MJT well put, and whoever is telling you JE pistons are crap needs to do a little more research. The company has beenaround a long time and knows how to make pistons. The pistons from JE are strong and will hold the power on a properly tuned motor.

But with any part they are not indestructable. If you have a porr set up and are not tuned properly and do something stupid, and run too lean and get a lot of detonation say you can break even a forged piston.

A couple questions out of curiosity, Are youi planning on Turbo? and what do the 4G63 guys recommend?

I run high, let me stress HIGH boost on my 420a motor, and I am running a set of JE pistons with great results. I dish it out and she takes every bit of it.. Even when I was car-retarded way back when and would boost way over what I should on pump gas, held up through some shit I guarantee you... I give then 2 thumbs up!

Do you really need to lower your compression when you go turbo or could you stay at stock compression when you upgrade the internals??

Low compression high boost is the way turbo was ment to be. Honestly, the highest i would go is 9:1. theres one person here running w/ stock compression but upgraded internals and Stan is running high compression, or was...

Stan ran 10.5:1 compression and 10PSI with no high EGT or detonation problems. Kiku from ASOG runs 10:1 compression and 10PSI, and again no problems with detonation. It's possible to do, but limits you in the amount of boost you can run (because of fuel constraints, mostly.)

Hey chris, where you getting the pistons from? I am looking into doing my engine soon. Can you get any more for that low price? Or is it just a one time deal? I think I am going to go with the howwel rebuild kit though. Its only $1099 for everything. I need to run more boost. 6psi is getting boring.

well i want to have atleast 300 ponies to the wheels on pump gas. Is that possible with JE pistons that keep the stock compression ratio or would I need to go ahead and purchase lower comp pistons??? On a side note what else would need to be done to support a 300hp engine

300 hp would be running around 15psi I think(with 8.6:1), so yes, you'll want to get pistons w/ a lower compression ratio. Unless you like rebuilds and have some spare blocks layin around.

i know ya'll are probably tired of me asking questions, but I read on HRC's website that they were pushing over 20psi on their JE pistons and whatever rods (i forgot). Is it possible to do that, when racing for instance, on pump/race gas with just a rebuild or is more needed?

You should only run upto 15psi on pump gas, and higher on race gas... I have hit high boost on pumpgas, maby 22-25psi on occasion when I forgot I was running a tankful of premium.. but it's not a good thing... The more boost your running, the more of a chance you have for detonation, which is what it sounds like... The gas is exploding in the combustion chamber.. even when the pistion is trying to push up, detonation will try and push it back down and can cause horror stories of which you have undoubtedly heard on this list before..

do new pistons, say JE 9:1 or 8.5:1 compression just fit right in or do you have to do machining? What do these numbers actually represent?
Would it be worth it to just throw some stronger rods and leave the rest alone? I don't really plan on going to the track a whole lot, but I do want a fast car. I want to look back on these years and remember what a car I had. But then again, you start going fast, you just want to go faster...

Dave, i am getting them from brian its said to say that he is leaving the game of modding his car. So in my benefit i am getting his pistons the crower rods and such for a very good price. Thanx for all the info, very helpful, most of the people i hang out with are 4g guys and i guess they dont have much luck with the je pistons so ill ive been hearing are instances of pistons goin through the block. right now it looks like i will have the rebuild done by the end of jan and my turbo on shortly after (hopefully the NER kit :P) well thanx agian.

Their pistons going through the block may have somethign to do with their own demons regarding oil starved bearings.

These DSM's with their oil starvation problems. :-(
