ok I failed the dreaded california emissions test again. My car has never passed it. My hydrocarbons were too high. the last time i took a test I had my stock one. Then I went and replaced it with a Bosche OEM one. It had the correct connector and all plug and play. But it looks a lot different than stock it doesn't have these holes in the probe part the stock ones have and it gots this thick cylindrical section coming out of it. Anyway it cycles a lot quicker (autometer gauge) than my stock one so i assumed it was all good but still failed hydrocarbon. It'll fail the 15mph test by more than the 25mph test also. There some oxygen is left over. Like 0.6. My car can get 28 MPG now also which is a good indicator that it works. But I want to try with another O2 sensor because I hear Bosche sux even though I've been using it and it seems fine maybe it worx but not good enough.

anyway I've been checking out satan and they want to charge rediculous prices and there are like hella oxygen sensor out there and they need to special order it. They keep on asking for my vin number. So I'm going to go with aftermarket route. From what I gather there are 3 brands of aftermarket OEM O2 sensors.

Walker
Denso
NTK/NGK
(and of course bosche but I don't go there)

what experiences have you guys had with these O2 sensors and were you able to pass the sniffer test with them. I know denso is what toyotas use and its good stuff. Its slightly more expensive also. Ugh I'm sick of failing I want to put the turbo kit back on already. My last resort if the O2 sensor doesn't work is to use ethanol O_o'.

NTK are what the factory uses.

What are your other mods that is causing you to fail the SMOG test. I know it can be a PITA to pass. You can always claim the out of state thing again...:P

That turbo kit is off and here's what I got that NOT stock that could be working against me:
30lb injectors
SFMU 20 psi
SAFC
JE 10.5:1 pistons
Total Seal rings (have to take out PCV and routed to catch can, if i don't do this I get a IAC code)
Burns 1 qt oil after like 70 miles
Airtex inline fuel pump
3 inch cat
3 inch exhuast system (silenced for backpressure)
1mm oversized valves

everything else is stock

my friend sez my cat is doing its job because it gets 14 on the CO2, he sez before you start changing cats the O2 sensor should be looked at first. I'm also getting no error codes.

I would think the higher CR would give you a better burn and lower emissions a bit, but maybe the larger valves are flowing just enough to put you over the limit or something. :shrug

the last test I failed NOx and my NOx has always been sorta high but not high enough to fail. Today my friend and I checked the whole EGR system out in my car and it all checked out cept that the solonoid wasn't giving much vacuum to the EGR. So we opened up the solonoid filter which I've never opened by and wadda ya know CAKED with carbon. The hole that the vacuum was suppose be coming from was like a pin hole. Cleaned it out so should pass NOx now :) It was probably caked because I'm burning all that oil.

Now for HC lets hope that O2 sensor will do the trick. We did some tests and my friend sez that its doing what its suppose to do but I'm thinking maybe the Bosche one is giving some slightly bad readings if what everyone sez about them is true. Hey maybe I can get 30+ MPG with a better one. Now which one to get?

Go with the factory part (NTK).

I know our ECU is able to compensate for 30# injectors, but you might want to consider removing them for emission testing and replace with stockers set at factory pressure. Just a throught.

maybe you could run a range or two hotter plug to burn up some of the extra junk?

Kaiser- NTK are only stock on turbo DSMs. 2GNT's come with champions stock.

Hades- High HC's is a sign of a bad cat. Get a new one, make sure you drive on the freeway for 30 mins immediately before smogging. You may also have an oil leak.

EDIT- and if you haven't gone back to stock injectors by now, you need to. That's a no brainer.

Dan, I'm fairly sure the factory upstream O2 sensor is a NTK unit. If in reference to spark plugs, then you are correct...biach....!

ok I'm a dumbass I went and ordered the Denso one because I like Denso because its Japanese or something stupid like that. But I try to install the damn thing and the connector is different arghhhh some direct fit that crap is. The Bosche one has round pins where the denso has spade looking ones. Then the colors are totally different there is now a blue wire that seems to have replaced the grey one and now 2 black wire instead of 2 white ones and a white one where there were 2 blacks on the other. Arrghhh its all screwed up I'm not even gonna try rewiring it. I'm just going to do what you guys suggested b4 and get a NTK one. Hopefully I can find a place locally that has it in stock.

The Bosche connector is exactly the same as the stock NTK one I managed to dig up my old one up.

I don't know how they have Denso in there. Winchester auto sez its for 95 eclipse and so does oxygensensors.com but if you look at the pictures the connectors are different from the walker and denso ones. The walker looks like the same O2 sniffer but the connectors are the right one. Did they make a different kinda connector for 95 eclipses? Because when I call satan they always ask for my VIN number. I don't see how the Denso one is the right one either because the wire is hella longer than the correct one.

get a new cat, and might try mixing 3% methanol to a tank of fresh premium. it lowers nox for emissions and ive got away with it on 40lb injectors like it was nuthin :thumbsup

ok that diagram is great it makes sense, jeez black is signal wierd O_o So the connectors actually do line up. Just different colors. I guess I'll try it out.

Yeah i don't see any problem with using 30lb injectors the computer can control them fine. I'm going to do a pre test after I put in the O2 sensor. I noticed I have like 2 cracks on my exhuast manifold I hear that can throw O2 sensor reading off so I'm gonna mix up a batch of JB weld hehe. Then replace my Manifold to downpipe gasket.

Ethanol is my last resort if I fail one more time in it goes.

I'm pretty sure I got the NOx situation resolved though hopefully my NOx numbers will be very low now because I was getting high but passable numbers b4 and last time just freakin rediculously high numbers.

Doesn't make sense to have high HC and high NOx at the same time unless your rich and your EGR isn't working right. hehe, but hopefully this will do the trick. I just hope the catalyst isn't all jacked up already.

yea that exhaust leak is definately not helping
