92206, Where the heck does this wire go? Posted by ryanp96, Aug-09-05 06:41 PM
I've got this loose wire under the hood of my '96 GS-T and I can't find out where it is supposed to be attached. I was thinking it might be a ground since I can't find anything on the car that isn't working. I don't want to try hooking it to anything if I don't know what it's for. It's a heavy guage black wire with a think yellow stripe. As you can see, it's a part of a bundle of wires that are going to the positive terminal of the battery.
thanks in advance. Ryan
here's a big pic:

holy shit that is a frikkin big pic, but it appears to be a ground wire. Test it before you hook it to any thing to see if it has any current on it. If not then it is a ground.

Looks like the main ground wire that gets bolted to the tranny-to-block connection..it's mainly for the starter ground..

ground wires carry current too...

Use ohm meter to check if its a ground. If it is, check to see if one of your starter bolts has a ground on it. If not, thats where it goes. If you trace the wire back to the starter bolt then you need to ground it.
I figure since I cant stop fixing the damn thing, I'll just create more problems to work on. :) The stock pile has begun. Parts PArts PARts PARTs PARTS!!! I'm a novice listen to what I say and make your own conclusion. If I'm wrong tell me and I will learn. Thanks be to the 2gnt Gods may they grant me turbo and fruits of the Earth. Amen.

If this is a 1g then check where the harness goes. the last 1g i had parted had a ground wire that was actually 12+ same location.
you need to check it to be sure.
Just by looking at the termination on it i would say its def a ground but dont take anyones word for it. trace the wire out to be safe. If anyone of us are wrong, its not our car that gets damaged, its yours.

Its a ground wire. I can take a pic if you dont trust me. My 91 4g63 Galant is damn near the same engine bay setup as yours. Main ground at the battery is black/yellow. There is also a main ground at the transmission-to-block bolt, topside of the trans, bolt closest to the firewall, also a black/yellow wire, terminated with a ring terminal. It's either one of these 2 wires i described. If it were the main battery ground, then i'd think you would notice that nothing works :) Take a look at your top 2 trans bolts and i'd bet you will not find a thick black/yellow wire attached to one of those bolts. 1G/2G 4g63 wire colors are very, very similar througout the years..Even our cars have a black/yellow main ground cable.

That's pretty funny the same question is being asked in the 4g forum.. and it goes from the tranny to the negative battery post as ^^ was saying.
